England’s Lake District
Historically shared by the counties of Cumberland, Westmorland and
Lancashire, the Lake District now lies entirely within the modern county of
Cumbria. The area contains England’s deepest and longest lakes. Our early
autumn visit will avoid the hustle and bustle of the main holiday season.
Day 1 We make suitable comfort stops
throughout the journey to Bowness on
Windermere for our 4 night stay.
Day 2 After a morning in Keswick, we head to
Glenridding to board a steam boat to cruise
the length of Lake Ullswater with views of
Lakeland’s highest mountains. We then travel
back to the hotel by coach.
Day 3 This morning we join minibuses owned
by the highly respected ‘Mountain Goat’
company to witness stunning views that are
inaccessible by coach. During the rest of the
day we will have time to enjoy a narrow gauge
heritage train ride on the Ravenglass &
Eskdale Railway, see England’s deepest lake
and visit the grounds of the 14th Century
Muncaster Castle and the World Owl Trust.
Day 4 Today we take a magical journey on the
Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, the only
standard gauge preserved railway in the Lake
District. This steam railway takes you through
breathtaking scenery of the Leven Valley
from Haverthwaite to Lakeside at the southern
tip of Windermere. Here we take a cruise on
Windermere, England’s largest lake, for a
stunning voyage giving us magnificent views
of mountain scenery, secluded bays and the
wooded islands. We disembark at Bowness
and enjoy some shopping time at your leisure
before our coach takes us back to our hotel
for our evening meal.
Day 5 We repeat our outward journey in the
opposite direction.
