Island of Garnish & County Cork’s
Coastal Gardens
The breathtaking beauty of the mountain scenery, meandering streams, lush
valleys and hidden glens of the coastal areas of County Cork is owed, in part,
to the mild climate. Semi-tropical plants thrive in this environment and this
tour really is a gardener’s dream come true.
Day 1 Early morning departure from our
local pick-up area with motorway stops enroute
to Pembroke for our afternoon sailing to
Rosslare. We travel from Rosslare to Waterford
for our overnight stop at the Treacys Hotel.
Day 2 After breakfast, we spend the morning
at leisure. You could visit the Waterford
Crystal Visitor Centre, home of the world's
most famous crystal, the Museum of Treasures,
the Kite Design Centre or the newly opened
Bishops Palace (local charges will apply). In the
afternoon, we travel onwards to Bantry and
check into our main Hotel.
Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast this morning,
we will visit Bantry House and Gardens, a
family home for the past 300 years, where
we will be treated to a guided tour of the
house. We will see furniture and tapestries
from Versailles, the Ante Room and a dramatic
dining room as well as the bedrooms. We
can then explore the stunning formal gardens
at our leisure and enjoy a homemade lunch
in the Tearoom (not included). We will spend
the rest of the day exploring the stunning
seaside resort of Bantry, with its semi-tropical
flowers, palm trees, high mountain ridges
and cascading mountain streams leading to an
azure blue sea.
Day 4 This morning we will drive to the
beautiful harbour town of Glengarriff, enjoy
lunch (not included) in one of the harbour
restaurants and then take the Garnish Island
Ferry from the Pier to the amazing garden
island of Garnish via the magical Seal Island,
where a colony of tame seals resides! The
Gardens themselves comprise a number of
features all of which are nestled within the
protection of woodlands planted 100 years
ago. This shelter, combined with the effects of
the gulf stream and the unique configuration
of Glengarriff Harbour, results in a unique
micro climate in which an amazing range of
exotic species flourish.
Day 5 This morning, we will make our way
to the historic port and fishing town of Kinsale.
Known as the ‘Gourmet Capital of Ireland’,
Kinsale is proud to be considered a ‘Foodie
Town’ and its narrow streets, medieval
