Free cakes for kids Thetford, can you help?...<br />
Free Cakes for Kids is a community service to<br />
families who find it difficult to provide a birthday<br />
cake for their child.<br />
A birthday cake is baked by local volunteers with the<br />
child’s favourite theme (where possible). The cake<br />
is then delivered to the family. This service covers<br />
Thetford, Bury st Edmunds and the area immediately<br />
surrounding, although is at the group’s discretion<br />
where they will and won’t cover so get<br />
in touch if unsure. FCFK has over 80<br />
organisations running though the UK<br />
with 1000’s of cakes being delivered<br />
every year.<br />
Who is eligible? Any child who would<br />
not otherwise receive a birthday<br />
cake is eligible. This may be due to<br />
financial reasons, but could also be<br />
due to circumstances (e.g. young<br />
carers, illness etc.). Families can refer<br />
themselves to receive a cake, however<br />
we do prefer to work direct family organizations such<br />
as Home start or other agencies.<br />
How can I help? There are lots of way to help. By<br />
becoming a volunteer baker you can help us achieve<br />
our goal of putting a smile on as many children’s<br />
(and parents) faces as possible. You don’t need to be<br />
an expert baker just have the basic knowledge and<br />
want to help. Becoming a volunteer baker is flexible;<br />
you can fit it round your commitments and bake<br />
when you have the time. There is no pressure to bake.<br />

What will the cake be like and how will it be<br />
delivered? All our cakes are different, we like to<br />
personalise them based on the child’s interests.<br />
The cake will be delivered by a local<br />
volunteer direct to the family or to the<br />
organisation supporting the family.<br />
Why do we do it? We do it because<br />
we care. There are a lot of families out<br />
there that are currently in a situation<br />
that prevents them from providing a<br />
Birthday cake for their child.<br />
We currently have 21 fantastic bakers<br />
who have made more than 50 cakes<br />
over the past 2 years. The cakes come<br />
in all different shapes and sizes from<br />
football shirts, Frozen & Batman to a<br />
pretty pink cake covered in butterflies, Ironman &<br />
Harry Potter to just name a few.<br />
FCFK do not receive any funding however donations<br />
are greatly received to help our bakers deliver such<br />
wonderful gifts.<br />
