Let the
light in
The New Year’s resolution, the
little tradition of a promise to
yourself to make a little change
in some way to make things
easier.
The promise might be to take more holiday, or
spend a little more time on yourself, or even to
break the new years resolution... But how about
sticking to one that not only benefits you, but
also benefits your friends and family every day?
How about letting the light back into your home.
We don’t mean more fairy lights, as you will no
doubt have seen enough over Christmas. No,
we mean, lightening and opening everything up,
fresh and ready for the New Year.
Of course, once the New Year hits, so does reality,
and from celebrations, parties and feasting,
comes work, school runs, and daily life.
Wouldn’t it be nice to come back from a long
day to a home that is uncluttered, free from
indian piles and space to start the evening in? Or
even to come down to in the morning? Remind
yourself that your home is a sacred place, but
also that it is a haven away from the world. We
are not saying get rid of absolutely everything
and paint it all white. We are saying store, hang,
bundle and fold. Add a few touches of new to the
edge of a sofa, the middle of the table, or by the
back door.
Just Ideas...
Hang it up. There will always be wall space
for a few more hangers for coats, scarves and
blankets. It frees up the piles over the back of
chairs!
Having big wicker baskets dotted around the
house for any use - logs, books, clothes or how
about for shoes by the back door?
Mirrors. The epitome of creating light. How
about hanging a few round the house?
Lighten up the decor. Swap darker cushion
covers or throws for a lighter.
Let the light in and ready for a brand new year.
Get a new lamp to light up that dark corner.
