Bird Walks in the Parks<br />

First Saturday and Sunday of the month<br />

Bird Walks will be at Tall Cypress Natural Area, 3700 Turtle Run<br />

Blvd., Coral Springs, at 8am. This event is for all ages. The<br />

Scholarship Opportunities<br />

The City of Parkland is offering two<br />

scholarships for graduating Parkland<br />

seniors. Application deadline is<br />

<strong>January</strong> 27.<br />

Education Advisory Board<br />

Scholarship: Open to Parkland<br />

residents with a minimum cumulative<br />

grade point average of 2.5 who<br />

are eligible for high school graduation<br />

in the current school year. This<br />

scholarship recognizes students with<br />

a demonstrated commitment to community<br />

service beyond the required 40<br />

service hours.<br />

Engineering Scholarship: This<br />

opportunity is offered in partnership<br />

with Unger Engineering Services and<br />

Winningham and Fradley Inc., and is<br />

open to Parkland<br />

residents who are<br />

eligible for high<br />

school graduation in<br />

the current school<br />

year and intent on<br />

pursuing a degree<br />

in civil engineering,<br />

surveying,<br />

or a related field.<br />

Successful Food Drive<br />

The City of Parkland hosted its annual<br />

holiday food drive and collected 621<br />

pounds of non-perishable food, much<br />

of which was donated by Parkland<br />

residents, and provided it to Feeding<br />

South Florida. City volunteers pitched<br />

in to prepare about 8,000 meals in a<br />

Debra and Jennifer Quercioli are two of 19 volunteers<br />

helping at the food drive.<br />

three-hour shift. Volunteers met early<br />

at Parkland City Hall then traveled<br />

by bus to Feeding South Florida in<br />

Pembroke Park. There they received<br />

orientation and training on how to<br />

inspect donated items for sorting.<br />

While 621 pounds of food was<br />

donated by Parkland, the volunteers<br />

assisted in sorting more than 10,400<br />
