WESTGLADES MIDDLE SCHOOL
by Margaret Curtis, Westglades PTA
Corresponding Secretary
Happy New Year from Westglades
Middle School. The SGA and PTA wants
to begin 2017 by thanking all of those
who have shared in our
vision of the need to update
our Media Center space by
recognizing the importance of
creating a flexible, innovative
environment conducive to
21st Century learning. Your
donations are already hard at
work. The walls have been
painted and the poles have
been wrapped with a contemporary
mural of our mascot, the wolf. We also
have new blinds hanging in the windows
and the carpet has been professionally
cleaned. Toward the end of January
or beginning of February, we expect
to have our new tables and chairs, the
new circulation desk, and Genius Bar.
If you would like to find out how you
and/or your business can help with this
project, please contact Robin Lopatin
at RobinLopatin@gmail.com or visit
WestgladesPTA.com where you can
adopt a piece of furniture on which your
name will be permanently recognized.
Our next PTA meeting is on January 20
at 9:30am.
Open House will be on January 24 from
6:30 to 8:30pm; we invite all 4th and 5th
grade parents and students to attend.
You will have the opportunity to tour the
campus, meet the 6th grade teachers
and learn what to expect and about the
many clubs, activities, and athletic teams
available to your child. We will also
have teachers from every grade level,
coaches, Guidance Counselors, ESE
specialists, Administration, and current
parents and students on hand to answer
questions and address concerns. Come
68
and see why Westglades Middle School
should be your first choice in education
for your middle school student.
From January 23 to 27, Westglades
will be celebrating literacy week with
“Literacy Changes the World.” There
will be a number of fun activities planned
to
stimulate
students’
interest
in
reading.
There
will be
guest
readers
during first period classes throughout
the week. Each day will have a different
theme. Tuesday is Super Readers, so
wear your Super Hero Gear. Wednesday
is Literacy Dress Up Day, so dress like
your favorite book or character. On
Friday, we will celebrate the All American
Reader so wear red, white, and blue.
FOREST GLEN MIDDLE
SCHOOL
by Robyne Friedland
We hope you had a wonderful holiday
season and a restful winter break. We
are near the end of the second quarter
so stay tuned for more events and activities
as the month rolls on.
We are always proud of our students,
but here is a very proud moment for our
music program.
On Thursday, November 10, 2016, 100
of Forest Glen Middle Schools’s topachieving
music students performed at
Walt Disney World in Kissimmee, Florida.
FGMS was represented with both a
choir, led by Dr. Anthony Zoeller, and a
band, led by Ms. Kristen Lewis. Both
groups were required to complete an
audition for Walt Disney World before
being selected to perform. Students
from all different class periods prepared
for this special performance with over
a month of extra rehearsals outside of
the school day. Their hard work paid
off, when the choir and band brought
an outstanding performance to the
Waterside Stage at Disney Springs.
Congratulations to the FGMS Wildcat
Choir and Wildcat Band for not only
representing Forest Glen Middle School
well, but the entire Coral Springs
Community.
If you have any questions or concerns,
call Forest Glen at 754-322-3400.
