"FINEST Marbella" presents one
of Marbella's icons: Condé Rudi.
He is a German aristocrat who came to Marbella
in 1956 – and saw and conquered: Count
Rudolf von Schönburg-Glauchau-Waldenburg.
The legend of Condé Rudi, as he is respectfully
called, started in 1956, but the foundation
stone, the beginning, goes back to 1946. At
that time, when Marbella was still a small and
unimportant fishing village, Prince Maximilian
von Hohenlohe-Langenburg bought a plot of
land for just a few cents and developed it as a
family home. In 1954 his son Alfonso made an
old farmhouse into a small motel. Two years
later Alfonso invited his cousin, Condé Rudi,
to Marbella. From then onwards the count put
his stamp on the project. With the aid of this
graduate of the Lausanne Hotel Academy, the
old farmhouse with 20 rooms was turned into
a holiday hotel, and the fishing village likewise
began to change. Relations of the Hohenlohe
family, including Bismarcks and Metternichs
were the first members of high society, out of
family attachment, to spend their valuable holiday
time in the small hotel.
From that point it developed more and more
into a hot-spot for high society, which thronged
there in the 1970s. Condé Rudi's signature was
easily recognisable: true to the style of an aristocratic
house, pure relaxation, privacy and
professional staff, rather than luxurious comfort,
were the order of the day. Since more and
more stars and starlets came and went from

Die Legende um Condé
Rudi, wie er auch respektvoll genannt wird, begann
zwar 1956, aber der Anfang ist auf das Jahr 1946
zurückzuführen. Damals, Marbella war noch ein
kleines unbedeutendes Fischerdörfchen, erwarb
Prinz Maximilian von Hohenlohe-Langenburg für nur
ein paar Cent ein Areal und baute es zur Familienresidenz
aus. Sein Sohn Alfonso machte 1954 aus
einem alten Bauernhaus ein kleines Motel. Zwei
Jahre später rief Alfonso seinen Cousin, Condé
Rudi, nach Marbella. Von da an drückte der Graf
dem Vorhaben seinen Stempel auf. Aus dem alten
Bauernhaus mit 20 Zimmern wurde mithilfe des
Absolventen der Lausanner Hotelfachschule ein
Ferienhotel und das Fischerdorf begann sich ebenfalls
zu wandeln. Verwandte der Familie Hohenlohe,
darunter Bismarck und Metternich, verbrachten aus
Verbundenheit zu Alfonsos Familie als erste Mitglieder
der höheren Gesellschaft ihre kostbare Zeit der
Erholung in dem kleinen Hotel.
Fortan entwickelte es sich immer mehr zu einem
Hotspot für die High Society, die sich gerade in den
1970er-Jahren die Klinke in die Hand gab. Die persönliche
Handschrift Condé Rudis war zügig erkennbar:
Gemäß einem herrschaftlich geführten Haus
waren reine Erholung, Abgeschiedenheit und professionelles
Personal statt luxuriöser Komfort angesagt.
