Debugging The CrossFit Myths CrossFit is a training methodology that incorporates a variety of weightlifting, gymnastics, bodyweight movements and cardiovascular exercise in a challenging and fun approach to fitness. We focus on what our bodies are able to do, and the changes in our body and mind set are a by-product of this hard work. We are more than just a gym; we are a community of likeminded individuals and families that all enjoy living a healthy and active lifestyle. When we are contacted by prospective clients, the questions they have are often the same. We thought it was about time we put some of the myths straight Fitness Paul & Ellie, owners at Eye’s T800 CrossFit box debug some of the myths surrounding the fitness programme “DO I HAVE TO BE REALLY FIT TO START? I DON’T WANT TO HOLD EVERYONE UP.” This is by far the biggest concern and the short answer is no. Every workout is appropriately scaled to suit every level of fitness, mobility and strength for each individual. All sessions are carefully planned to allow all participants to perform to the best of their ability. Our members range from 16 to late 60s, and all participate in the same class. “IF I LIFT WEIGHTS WILL I GET BULKY?” Although lifting weights is included in the sessions it is only part of what we do. We do not focus on body building; we focus on building strength and learning the skills of olympic weightlifting. Doing CrossFit regularly will give you a more athletic and toned physique. “I’VE HEARD IT IS QUITE INTENSE, WILL I GET INJURED?” You will be taught how to move well and lift weights properly, focusing on form over load, the latter will come in time. All of our classes are instructed by professional and experienced coaches that are focused on technique and the way you move. You only add weight to a movement if you are performing it really well and if you are happy to do so. This is something your regular gym would not offer. “WHY IS THE MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MORE EXPENSIVE THAN MY LOCAL GYM?” You have to look at what you are getting for your money. Every class is like attending a group personal training session where you are watched, coached, encouraged. If you break down the cost per session that you attend it is incredibly good value for money. If you are bored of your current exercise routine, and fancy a change, give CrossFit a go.
