5. Toilet blocked:<br />

• Low fl ush toilets may require multiple fl ushing<br />

• Use a plunger to force minor obstructions past <strong>the</strong> toilet trap<br />

• Run a clean out auger or ‘snake’ down <strong>the</strong> drainpipe to break up<br />

obstructions or to hook onto and pull out objects<br />

• Within <strong>the</strong> fi rst two months of occupancy, <strong>Minto</strong> will inspect a toilet blockage<br />

and you may contact <strong>Minto</strong> Master<strong>Care</strong> to have an inspector come to your<br />

home to check if <strong>the</strong> blockage may be <strong>the</strong> result of construction debris.<br />

Two months past closing date and beyond, you will have to call a plumber<br />

if you are unable to clear <strong>the</strong> blockage<br />

6. Room is cold:<br />

• Thoroughly clean or replace your furnace fi lter to allow proper airfl ow<br />

• Balance your heating system by adjusting air grills and dampers<br />

to direct airfl ow to colder rooms<br />

• Leave room doors open, particularly those without a cold air return vent<br />

• Ensure furniture and draperies are not covering heat registers<br />

7. Furnace not operating:<br />

• Check wall <strong>the</strong>rmostat to ensure setting is in “heat” mode<br />

• Ensure that <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>rmostat is set higher than <strong>the</strong> current reading<br />

• Programmable <strong>the</strong>rmostats require batteries. Ensure that batteries are usable<br />

• Reset <strong>the</strong> furnace breaker in <strong>the</strong> electrical panel<br />

• Check that <strong>the</strong> furnace isolation switch, located at bottom of basement<br />

stairs or in mechanical room, is in <strong>the</strong> “on” position<br />

• Ensure that <strong>the</strong> exterior furnace exhaust/intake vents are free<br />

of obstructions including snow and ice<br />

8. Fireplace not working:<br />

• Make certain pilot light is on. Refer to <strong>the</strong> fi replace manual for instructions<br />

to re-light if it is not<br />

• Ensure <strong>the</strong> wall switch is on to activate <strong>the</strong> fl ame<br />

• Turn <strong>the</strong> dimmer knob located on wall to vary <strong>the</strong> fan speed. (Clockwise until<br />

you hear <strong>the</strong> CLICK)<br />

• Wait 15-20 minutes for fan to activate after dimmer switch is turned on<br />

9. Insects/rodents in or around your home:<br />

• Insects and rodents can invariably gain entry through an open door, window<br />

or vent, or moles may tunnel underground killing your grass<br />

• Treat with appropriate pesticide or contact a professional to eradicate<br />

• Check vents occasionally to remove bird nests
