New Opening
Explore the abundance of unique offerings
Written by Samantha Nice
Take
a trip to
Tamburlaine
at Cambridge’s latest boutique hotel
Following much anticipation, Tamburlaine, located in the heart
of Cambridge, is finally open. If you’ve not already seen or heard,
Tamburlaine is the city’s newest hotspot. Situated close to the
railway station, it’s just a short stroll into the city itself and a stone’s
throw from many of Cambridge’s top attractions. With unique
character and local charm, Tamburlaine is far more than just a
new hotel. Named after a play by Corpus Christi College Fellow,
Christopher Marlowe, this 155-room hotel is O’Callaghan Hotel
Group’s first UK venture. General Manager, Zac Pearse, has
previously overseen several leading London hotels. “We want
locals to see Tamburlaine as their hotel; a place where they can
come for a special dinner with family, cocktails or afternoon tea
with friends, or grab a coffee and sandwich from our deli on their
way to the station. Tamburlaine is a vibrant place for everyone
to enjoy!” Zac said ahead of the opening. Bryan O’Sullivan
Studio, based in Shoreditch are to thank for the stunning interior.
O’Sullivan has worked for an enviable list of leading interior firms
including David Collins, Martin Brudnizski and Selldorf Architects
to name a few. Aside from their stunning decor and distinct design,
what makes Tamburlaine a little different is their four opposing
food and drink offerings, all of which are united by their quality.
Tamburlaine rewrites the rules of hotel dining with menus which
are aimed at distinctly different moods. The name behind it all is
Alan Dann, their Executive Chef whose vast experience has proved
invaluable. Alan has worked for the likes of The Waterside Inn,
Restaurant Pierre Gagnaire and Restaurant Michel Geurard and
has fronted numerous Michelin starred restaurants in his career to
date meaning he has all the Tamburlaine needs to thrive.
1. THE BRASSERIE
The Brasserie boasts an accessible menu which is focused
entirely upon offering seasonal and locally-sourced delights.
The atmosphere is informal and has a chilled vibe thanks to
the pendant lighting, relaxed leather banquettes, floor to ceiling
windows and open kitchen which is a nice touch. The all-day menu
is graced with delicious dishes from breakfast through to lunch and
dinner. From pigeon and free-range pork to Norfolk Black chicken
and a Barnsley chop, the menu is bursting with tempting treats.
The Brasserie also houses a horseshoe shaped cocktail bar stocked
with everything from spirits and beers to wines and speciality
cocktails made by the resident mixologist. Make ours the
King’s College Spritz with Cambridge Gin!
Executive Chef, Alan Dann
2. THE GARDEN ROOM
Laden with lush green foliage, The Garden Room is ideal for
those fancying a spot of afternoon tea or a sip of champagne.
It’s a luxurious yet welcoming space which is perfect for a special
occasion or celebration as well as light lunches or sharing plates.
Decorated in a Colonial style with velvet sofas and ornate wallpaper,
it certainly brings something a little different.
