Adrian Peel talked to the owners of
The Gate House on School Road, Risby,
a delightful grade II-listed property
Located in Risby, close to Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket and
a 30-minute drive from Cambridge, this three-storey detached
property combines a traditional exterior with an attractive welldesigned
interior. The Gate House, a Georgian period family home,
is also superbly located and set in around 0.88 acres of beautiful
gardens.
Mr and Mrs Roger Shuttler have lived in the house for 23 years and
their two sons grew up in what has been a wonderful family home.

“What attracted us was a) the beautifully

space for the children to play in,” said
Roger, “and b) my wife is very pleased
with its location because she can nip up
to Newmarket for the races.”
Roger continued: “We’ve done nothing to the house structurally; it’s
just needed redecorating and the garden was a bit of a mess when
we moved in. We planted roses and that sort of thing.”
