Health
Take a look at what a week for Alison Hall,
co-owner at Liberte Fitness, looks like in food and fitness
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday is bootcamp again, I go to four sessions a
week. I prefer to exercise outside after I fell in love with
it six years ago. I’ve carried it on ever since as to me it
doesn’t even feel like exercise and it’s a non-negotiable in
my timetable!
THURSDAY
Thursday is a double session with PT in the morning,
followed by a park session in the evening. The early session
will usually be weights-based. This is something that I have
got into of late and something I am really enjoying as well
as seeing great results from.
FRIDAY
Friday kicks off with an early morning class - usually spin.
It’s also a ‘run day’ when the lighter evenings arrive. A
group of us head to Mount Road in Bury St Edmunds early
evening and do a bit of hill training. This is something
co-owner and head trainer at Liberte Fitness, Tony started
a few years back It kicks into action every spring and again
it’s great to train with others.
SATURDAY
Saturday is always a morning park session which is
sometimes preceded by the Park Run at Nowton Park.
We cheekily dub this the ‘dirty double’!
SUNDAY
Sunday is rest day - well kind of! I still do plenty of walking,
especially post-lunch. Some weeks I head to Needham
Market first thing for the Great Local Run around the
lake. This is a 5k held weekly by a group of volunteers very
similar to the way the Park Run operates with all levels
taking part and a smaller 2k route for smaller children or
those not ready for the full 5km.
Sunday is also prep day where I write a food plan, and shop
and prep as much in advance as possible. This is invaluable
to helping me achieve my exercise goals for the week.
Being part-owner of an outdoor fitness company and
someone who has found her exercise mojo later on in life
gives me a completely different perspective. I have real
empathy for those that struggle when it comes to nutrition
and exercise as I have been that person a great deal of my
life. The turning point for me was finding something I really
loved doing and making it a part of my life. Yes the clichés
are right - it is a lifestyle not a short term fix.
Find something you love doing as it will become a part of
your normal routine and won’t feel like a hardship.
Drink plenty of water. I carry my bottle with me
everywhere and continually sip it throughout the day.
Plan your food for the week. Be sure to shop and prepare
so you always have something tasty and healthy to hand.
Nutrition is key - you can’t out train a bad diet. Believe me
I’ve tried!
Change it up! Every so often I look for events and different
classes to try. It adds variety and something to aim for.
Meditate daily and walk as much where possible. Exercise
doesn’t have to be extreme and there are so many health
benefits to walking and getting as much fresh air as
possible!
