- The Kingdom of Scotland was an independent state until 1707,
when the Act of Union with England was signed, to create the
Kingdom of Great Britain.
- Raised in the 19th century, represented by the Scottish National
Party (SNP), it advocates Scotland's independence and won an
absolute majority in the Scottish Parliament in the May 2011
elections.
It is world famous for the Loch Ness Monster, the so-called
cryptozoological beast that inhabits it and is also called
"Nessie".
