- It is a 12 km long glacier located in Westland National Park, along
with Fox Glacier, amidst the greenery and frondiness of a
temperate rainforest.
- The area surrounding the two glaciers is part of Te Wahipounamu,
a park listed as a World Heritage Site. The river emerging from the
Franz Josef glacier terminal is known as the Waiho River.
They are caves of calcareous rock that form caves that have as
particularity the existence of a luminous worm in the ceiling of
the caves.
