Anamosa - A Reminiscence 1838 - 1988

The band made the first of three trips to the Dakota
Days Festival in Rapid City in 1977. and returned in
both 1980 and 1983.
A cooperative effort between the school and the city
in January of 1977 produced a sports complex that
added a baseball field and three softball fields near the
football fleld and track. A regulation tartan track was
laid. home bleachers were built on the north side and
an efficient press box added.
‘Once Upon a Matress' was the school musical of that
year.
In the fall of I977. a tradition was revived allowing
the election of both king and queen of homecoming.
December of that year a warning of declining
enrollment was given following years of growth in
school population.
A March 1978 ruling that sophomores might not
participate at the varsity level in sports brought mixed
reactions.
The refurbished school auditorium reopened in April
of 1978. New seats and lighting. plus additional storage
area. improved conditions for both performers and
audience.
The Raider boys golf team won their sixth
consecutive WaMaC. It was decided during the 1978-79
school year to add girls volleyball on a one-year trial
basis. The program actually began in the fall of 1979.
They won the WaMaC in the fall of I980 assuring the
