This early Anamosa baseball team fought many a
hard battle against their strongest competitors, the
Monticello team. Pictured, back row, are: Newton
Stewart, L. Duncan, Harry Beam, E.R. Moore, Allen
Sanford, Ed Holt, and Clyde Witcher: seated are: Curt
Rowery. Milt Armitage. Frank Scott. and R.
Shankiand.
It was said that when tie games had to be played
between the Anamosa and Monticello teams, it was
necessary to hold the contest in Cedar Rapids,
because neither of the grounds at the two towns had
seating capacity large enough to accommodate all
that would attend. This photo must have been taken
after a victory, as it is noted that each player is
decorated with a nosegay on his chest. (Anamosa
