KLIA celebrates the 29th SEA Games with KL2017
Torch Run
Malaysia Airports' employees and people
from the surrounding community within
Sepang celebrated and participated in the
Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017) Torch Run in
conjunction with the 29th SEA Games and
the 9th ASEAN Para Games on August 4.
Malaysia Airports is the gold sponsor and
official Welcoming Partner of the Games that
took place between August 19 and 30 and
between September 19 and 23, respectively.
More than 1,000 people were flagged off
at the KL International Airport (KLIA) after
the torch was handed over by Dengkil State
Assemblyman, Shahrum Mohd Sharif to
Malaysia Airports Senior General Manager,
Zainol Mohd Isa. Deputy Minister of Youth
and Sports, Datuk M. Saravanan was also
present at the event to flag off the run.
Zainol said, "We at Malaysia Airports are
proud to be part of the KL2017 Torch Run
today. This is a historic moment for us, not
only as employees of Malaysia Airports but
also as Malaysian citizens. We are proud
to continue serving the nation especially
during such a momentous occasion of
Malaysia hosting KL 2017. Our role as one
of the sponsors of KL 2017 is made even
more meaningful as this year is also our
Silver Jubilee year. So, we think it is a fitting
occasion that serves as one of the important
milestones in marking the celebration of our
25th Anniversary."
Apart from ensuring that the excitement
of the Games is felt at the airport through
themed ambiance installation and activation,
Malaysia Airports is also supporting the
facilitation of the arrival of the contingents,
officials and supporters. There were about
60 to 70 roving ambassadors placed at key
touch points at both terminals, KLIA and klia2, to provide operational and directional
assistance. These ambassadors were recruited from staff members who were excited and
proud to do their bit in supporting the country.
The KL2017 Torch has traversed all over Malaysia since May 2017 and continued its last
run in the state of Selangor before the opening of the 29th SEA Games on August 19.
The high point of the run was when the torch was brought into the Bukit Jalil Stadium to
light up the Games cauldron at the opening ceremony.
