Believed to be built without nails some<br />

300 years ago by a group of Muslim<br />

scholars from the Javanese Royal family,<br />

it is the oldest surviving mosque in the<br />

country.<br />

Kuala Koh<br />

National Park<br />

Kuala Koh is the northern entrance to<br />

Taman Negara, the National Park. The<br />

spectacular flora and fauna on offer here<br />

will keep your fingers glued to the<br />

camera button for hours on end and the<br />

recreational activities available include<br />

fishing, kayaking and bamboo rafting.<br />

This is no ordinary walk in the park!<br />

Gasing<br />

Locally-known as gasing, this traditional<br />

game is played after the rice harvest<br />

season. The game is usually played by<br />

tightly wounding a string or cord around<br />

the top and by holding one end of the<br />

string, the gasing is launched onto a flat<br />

surface to start spinning.<br />

Congkak<br />

The Congkak board has fourteen holes<br />

in two sets of seven, plus an additional<br />

hole on each side of the board holes the<br />

seeds. To win the game, one must score<br />

the most number of seeds in their-lefthand<br />

hole on the board.<br />

Kertok will have your feet tapping and<br />

Kertok<br />

Part of the folk percussion family, this<br />

local instrument goes, "clippity-clop,<br />

clippity-clop!" Kertok-making can be<br />

seen at Kampung Petani, Sering, Kota<br />

Bharu, Kampung Serdang, Kampung Chi<br />

Cha and Kampung Gelang Mas.<br />

Rebana Ubi<br />

It is said that these large Malay<br />

tambourines were first constructed in<br />

the state circa 1898 by descendants from<br />

ancient dynasties to provide an<br />

alternative form of entertainment. If you<br />

wish to view the makings of this<br />

instrument, head on over to Kampung<br />

Petani, Sering, Kampung Banggol or<br />

Gelang Emas.<br />

Wayang Kulit<br />

Kelantan is a melting pot of cultural<br />

influences and its shadow puppetry or<br />

wayang kulit is a clear representation of<br />

that. The shows fall into several<br />

categories according to appearances<br />

and nature of characters portrayed as<br />

well as epic stories. Catch a show or two<br />

at Kampung Kemasin, Kampung Parit<br />

Pasir or Kampung Kebakat.<br />

Seni Silat Tari<br />

This Malay martial art isn't just about selfdefence<br />

but a performance loaded with<br />

style. The word 'silat' refers to diversity<br />

within the martial arts and it exhibits<br />

gentle and soft movements.<br />

Get your martial arts game on!<br />

Dikir Barat<br />

A form of entertainment involving singing<br />

and hand clapping, it’s typically performed<br />

by groups of ten to twenty people. It<br />

involves solo and group singing, hand<br />

clapping, synchronised body and hand<br />

movements, accompanied by percussion<br />

instruments.<br />
