In Terengganu
This east coast state has a rustic, laidback, fishing village vibe peppered
with beaches and prominent sites that beckons a revisit, time and
time again. However, if you've yet to step foot into Terengganu, here
are suggestions on classic experiences the state has to offer.

Soak up the beaches
Terengganu's beaches are some of the
best and prove to be a great distraction
especially with a coastline that runs for
244 km. So, there's no point resisting its
allure; turn off from the main road
anywhere and cherish the serendipitous
discoveries not marked in any tourist map.
Teluk Bidara in Dungun is a bay near
Tanjong Jara Resort where one can
explore the cave and lighthouse on
Tanjung Api Hill at low tide. The Kuala
Abang and Kemasik beaches have some
interesting seaside rock formations on
which to perch and enjoy the miles of
blue, while Penarik tears you in two with
the river wetlands on one side and
gorgeous beach on the other and the
shade of casuarinas and coconut palms
in between the two.
The long Terengganu coastline may be
inviting but beware of the strong undercurrents
in certain places. Instead, bask
on a lazy chair and munch on 'keropok
lekor' as you take in the views of the
nearby islands and listen to the waves
breaking on the shore.
Participate in
squid jigging
Fancy catching your own live squids and
later cooking them on a boat to be
enjoyed fresh from the sea? Well,
participate in a famous night activity
known as squid jigging.
The activity requires a boat ride to a
squid jigging location which usually
takes an hour from the jetty. At the
location, the guide – who is a local
fisherman – will guide you on how to do
squid jigging using the gears prepared
by the fishermen.

Kenyir Lake!
MALAYSIA'S LARGEST MAN-MADE LAKE
Kenyir Lake may have been man-made but the serenity and peacefulness that exudes
from the lake is purely natural. The place is also home to 340 islands borne out of
hill tops when the valleys were filled with water during the Kenyir Dam construction.
At Kenyir, explore the birds and bees, fish breeding, ancient caves and take in
the greenery as far as your eyes can see! An eco-tourist must visit, Kenyir Lake
will not fail to disappoint.
Meanwhile, the Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village is a trans-location camp for
wild elephants from the forest to ensure that it continues to breed in a safe
environment and away from poachers and natural predators. Feed, bathe or play
with the gentle giants while you're there!
