Dive Resort
Near Mabul Island,
Sabah, Malaysia
If you're an avid diver or even
just about to get into diving,
we wouldn't be able to
recommend a better place
than a converted oil rig that
sits off the northern shore of
Mabul Island, Sabah. The
resort is a favourite among
divers looking to find
interesting sea creatures and
critters that are just in
abundance around the resort.
The accommodation is simple
and basic but has everything
you need to make your stay
comfortable and help you get
the most out of your diving.
All cabins are serviced daily
with fresh towels and bedding
and come equipped with
air-conditioning.
Kasbah du Toubkal
Imlil, Morocco
It was the home of the local Moroccan chief Caid
Souktani when Morocco was a French protectorate.
But when Morocco gained independence in 1956,
the Caid left the country and the Kasbah (citadel)
fell into ruin. This was when two British brothers who
often trekked in Imlil decided to turn what was left
of the place into sustainable accommodation that
benefitted both tourists and the local Berber people.
The process was long and complicated but the first
stage of the Kasbah was completed in 1995. Today,
tourists are able to ride on mules to the Kasbah, go
on mountain trekking expeditions, eat local Berber
food and get a first-hand taste of Berber hospitality.
