Friends of <strong>Norden</strong> Jubilee Park<br />

Halloween in the Park Saturday 28th <strong>Nov</strong><br />

Come along to the annual Children’s Halloween in the<br />

Park on Saturday 28th <strong>Nov</strong>ember from 6pm until 8pm at<br />

Jubilee Park, next to the Bridge Chippy, <strong>Norden</strong>.<br />

The <strong>Norden</strong> Witch Returns!! Come along to the park and<br />

join in the spooky fun. Prizes for the best Halloween<br />

costume and pumpkin lantern.<br />

Lots of fun and games, including trick or treat, music,<br />

whack the bat, tuck shop, pick your brains, black peas and<br />

much, much more.<br />

Jazz on a Sunday<br />

The WI<br />

The <strong>Norden</strong> W.I. meets at Cutgate Baptist Church at<br />

7.30pm for 7.45pm start on the first Wednesday of each<br />

month. <strong>Norden</strong> WI host lots of interesting events and talks<br />

throughout the year.<br />

The date of the next meeting is:-<br />

Wednesday 1st <strong>Nov</strong>ember, 7.30pm for 7.45pm start.<br />

<strong>Nov</strong>ember 1st is our AGM. This is where we summarise<br />

our past year and celebrate our successes. We will be<br />

having a couple of quizzes and a Meat and Potato Pie /<br />

Cheese and Onion Pie Supper.<br />

Prospective new members are very welcome – it will be a<br />

good meeting for you to see what we get up to!<br />

to attend. Time 7.30 for 7.45 start. We meet at Cutgate<br />

Baptist Church near the precinct at Cutgate.<br />

<strong>Norden</strong> WI also has a Crafts group that meets once a<br />

month and a Walking group every week for members.<br />

<strong>Norden</strong> & District Local History Society<br />

Please find below the details of the next meeting, which<br />

will be held at <strong>Norden</strong> Bowling Club, Trinity Street from<br />

7pm onwards.<br />

The next meeting of <strong>Norden</strong> & District Local History<br />

Society will be on 6th <strong>Nov</strong>ember.<br />

Paul Hindle - ‘Turnpikes and Maps of the North<br />

West’<br />

Paul is a retired University Senior Lecturer, he now<br />

concentrates on researching, writing and lectures in<br />

various fields of historical geography. He is an author<br />

& editor for North West Geography and also for the<br />

Manchester, Bury and Bolton Canals. Paul’s talk looks at<br />

the growth of turnpikes in the four counties of North West<br />

England from 1725, and the county maps which were<br />

surveyed in the 1770’s.<br />

New members and visitors welcome, £2 admission fee.<br />

Syke Walk and Talk Group<br />

The Syke Walk and Talk Group meet every Monday at<br />

1.00 pm and Friday 10.00am at Syke Methodist Chapel<br />

where there will be toilet facilities and hot drinks and<br />

socialising after the walks. There are 2 levels on the walk<br />

on Monday, a high quick walk and a slower one. There<br />

are also three levels on a Friday. A high fast walk, an<br />

intermediate walk and a slower one if needed. So there<br />

is something to suit everyone and all abilities. The Syke<br />

Walk and Talk group also meet on Tuesday at 10am from<br />

outside the Doctors Surgery at the Cutgate shopping<br />

precinct.<br />
