System mitigates any
product effect on line
The Bury Black Pudding
Company has embraced
the latest developments
from Mettler-Toledo Product
Inspection to protect its
long-established reputation as
demand for its product ranges
increases. Using a family
recipe that dates back over
100 years, the award-winning
company vigorously protects
its reputation for high quality
and consistent taste.
The Bury Black Pudding
Company’s first experience
with Mettler-Toledo Product
Inspection was an HDS metal
detection system, which was
specified to check clipped
black and white pudding
products prior to filling.
High levels of detection
sensitivity and equipment
stability, combined with
ease of use, allowed the HDS
solution to be fully integrated
with the existing Handtmann
vacuum filling machine on
the production line.
The HDS system can be fully
stripped down and is sealed to
IP69K, making it ideal for the
harsh washdown conditions
Petfood producer Wagg
Foods has increased its OEE
efficiency by 30%, secured
its packaging lines from errors
and ensured full compliance
with retailer codes of practice
with OAL Connected, a
modular suite of packaging
line software.
The company was attracted
to the OAL Connected system
as it offers label and date code
verification with the option to
easily expand functionality.
At its core, the automated
system verifies the labels,
As a BRC certified company, it is essential that equipment meets safety needs
that it is subjected to during
each product changeover.
As demand for black
pudding rings increased,
including larger packs and
frozen products, the company
installed a Profile Advantage
system from Mettler to assure
quality while mitigating any
‘product effect’.
The system detects irregular
shaped metal contaminants
up to 50% smaller in such
challenging applications.
Having been impressed
with the product trials
Label and date code verification is helping
a petfood manufacturer to meet standards
Operational
managers can now
plan their factory
more efficiently
packaging and date codes
on every product.
This same system can
then be used for factory
performance monitoring,
offering the real-time data
and metrics required to
implement a successful
of the Profile Advantage
equipment, The Bury Black
Pudding Company ordered
a bespoke conveyorised
system incorporating a Profile
Advantage metal detector
with a Series 80 conveyor.
“It just works,” says
Richard Morris, production
director at The Bury Black
Pudding Company. “Product
changeovers are quick and
simple; it’s very reliable
and also easy to use.”
functionality also includes
paperless quality checks and
checkweigher links to ensure
full traceability.
A bespoke system was devised
Cereals are
now cooler
in processing
Silvery Tweed Cereals has
completed a bespoke project to
upgrade the cooling capabilities
of its flaking line in conjunction
with local engineering company
FEG. This £250,000 project is
the culmination of 12 month’s
work which is today, delivering
a 51% reduction in pre-pack
temperatures in comparison
with the old line.
The drive and justification for
this project was to reduce pre-pack
temperatures, reduce floor waste,
simplify cleaning and remove the
danger of long term breakdown.
Silvery Tweed wanted to move
away from the industry standard
of drying, cooling conveyors
which use individual slats on a
chain drive. This element is what
took most of the time as the
cereals producer had to find an
engineering company that was
up to the task.
FEG rose to the challenge and
has delivered on all expectations
of the food company’s brief.
At the same time, FEG
upgraded the process control of
the line to give more operator
flexibility in managing line
speeds, product depths, and
dust extraction along with
refrigeration airflow.
The line is already delivering
substantial savings on floor waste
and in turn increasing output.
