All-in-one verification
offers food sector gain
A
system that combines
multi-parameter product
verification from a small
footprint has been developed
by Dimaco (UK) and Starflex
Packaging Europe.
Called the Veri-WEIGH,
the new machine overcomes
a set of problems that have
existed in the food industry
for some time. Namely, how
to checkweigh, verify the label
and check the seal of food
products on a single machine
– traditionally, of course, these
functions have each been
carried out on separate units.
And even where physical
space to fit all this kit isn’t an
issue, data sharing between
them often was.
By creating a close
partnership between the
two companies, it has been
possible to develop this single
machine that is not only
physically small but, says
Dimaco’s Russell Sion, one
that is greater than the sum
of its parts. “This is due to its
ability to share both product
specification data and realtime
results,” he says.
The Veri-WEIGH
verification unit was
seen at the exhibition
for the first time
Dimaco has used its unique
set of algorithms which are
billed as allowing best in class
label inspection on rotated and
distorted labels. In addition
to this inspection software,
the company has also
developed its Veri-CENTRAL
database which is capable of
being fully integrated into a
food processing company’s
production system.
Indeed, this database was
the key to allowing the check
weigher and vision system
to share production and
inspection data in real time.
A machine was therefore
designed to support the
competing needs of load cells
and cameras so that neither
inspection was compromised.

A pressured packing
exercise proved to be
a big hit with visitors
Allpack Packaging had a
successful show with its new
stand design that challenged
visitors to wrap a variety of
items including a teddy bear and
biscuits, in a timed challenge
involving taping, boxing, labelling
and wrapping on a small conveyor
belt and packing table. Indeed,
the exercise demonstrated many
of the products and services
provided by the company.
“We had an amazing time at
the PPMA Show,” says Allpack’s
James Burbridge. “We have
never had such a successful show
with a great atmosphere, I am
not sure it could have gone any
better,” he continues. “We can’t
wait to do it all again next year.”
