Seal options offer quick
and easy upgrade choice

Multigland
at the show, an
innovation designed
to allow its customers
to be flexible and agile
while continuing to
use mixing machines
that they have been
using successfully for
decades.
Multigland is
a purpose built
platform design that is
incorporated into the
end plate of a standard
ribbon blender. It is
designed to take in the
first instance, the low cost
proven and industry accepted
gland packing approach,
but with the added benefit of
pre machining in readiness
for an upgrade to leading
mechanical seal designs
which are supported
worldwide. The Cinch seal
and Impro Air Miser seal are
catered for.
These preparations allow
the owner of the mixer to take
advantage of the upgrade
Multigland offers mixer users a futureproof design
possibility at some time in
the future – whether in two
or twenty years. In practice,
customers are able to move
their business forward as
demands change without
the need to replace the whole
machine, without the need
to have major disruption of
the replacement process and
without the need to install
a second line to manage the
new demands.
“In short, this is a major
step forward in asset
protection and versatility
and flexibility in
ownership,” says Grant
Jamieson, managing
director of Winkworth.
This new product is
particularly suitable for
powder blending as very
often, a determining
factor in the choice of
machine is associated
with clean down practices
and the frequency of
changing from one recipe
or formula to another.
Cross contamination
in some environments
is a major concern,
for instance, while changes
in regulations can also have
a bearing.
“We have seen a number of
successful companies being
forced to respond to regulatory
and assurance changes and our
innovation in design is aimed
at fully protecting their asset,”
says Jamieson. “We believe
we’ve designed for today and
are ready for tomorrow.”

Facial recognition
and gesture control
for all machines
For the first time in the UK,
Omron demonstrated the
company’s new OKAO facial
recognition and gesture control
technology for machine access
and control. Visitors to the stand
were given the opportunity to
interact with an industrial robot
using gesture control alone. The
demonstration also previewed
the latest biometrics technology,
with the OKAO system operating
as a facial recognition system for
access control and presenting a
contextualised menu dependant
on the authorised access level.
Omron believes that as the
industry moves towards the
Industrial Internet of Things and
automation penetrates further
new areas, new methods of
interacting with machinery are
necessary while the industry will
also require more reliable safety
and security systems.

Checkweigher and detector
combination brings benefits
As part of its demonstration
of inspection technologies
that are designed to reduce
wasted time, product and
costs, Mettler Toledo unveiled
its CM33 combination metal
detector and checkweighing
system.
As well as offering high
speed throughput and
accuracy, the unit is highly
customisable with up to
180 performance and
productivity enhancing
options offered. However, its
new, standardised tubular
frame design also means that
a basic system can be built in
just four weeks.
“This new frame is also
more cost effective and
delivers a reduced footprint for
customers,” explains Magan
Jimale, product inspection
account manager, South East
at Mettler Toledo. Meanwhile,
the specialised conveyors
are designed to match
applications and product
conditions.
