"Snow" field in Dalat
What I call "snow" is in fact, the early
morning dew that covers a field in
Dalat, which could easily be mistaken
for snow under the white glare of the
sun. When we went there, we were
lucky to have beautiful weather with
the sun shining bright at 7 am, turning
the whole area into a "snow" field.
Even our local guide was surprised to
see such an amazing sight, "Only 1 out
of every 10 trips I get to see something
like this!", she said.
What you need to be ready to go on a
"snow" hunt is to get up super early
to catch the sight of the dew melting
around 8 am. When the sun is up high,
the "snow" field disappears - such a
shame for late arrivals.
From the town center, head towards the Golden Valley
along Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Road. From the Scientific
Research Institute of Highland, turn left at the T-junction.
Continue another 4km towards the Golden Valley,
look to the right to find a small trail. The trail is a little
dangerous, so be careful. Continue for 1km, and you will
find the field.
Sunflower filed in Lac
Duong Prefecture
The sunflower field sits within
the Dalat Milk factory. You need
to provide your identification card
at the entrance, and leave your
motorbike outside. No entrance fee
was required, but I went and bought
a milk carton in gratitude for the
factory's hospitality.
I found the field not as crowded
and "noisy" as described by the
newspaper. Trash bins were placed
around the field, and people walked
in order. The area was large enough
for large crowds. The crowds of
people there reminded me of my time
spent in Owakudani, Hakone, Japan.
Despite the big crowds, people still
moved around in an extremely order
fashion.
From Dalat, head towards the National Highway
No.20 and go in the opposite direction of Duc Trong,
pass Finom T-junction. At Bong Lai T-junction, turn left,
continue for 5km and you will find the milk factory and
sunflower field.
