Requirements for Application: Admission to the program<br />
is a separate process from general college admission.<br />

for the clinical portion of the program are only accepted<br />
at certain times during the year. Specific application<br />

Practical Nursing Program Policies related to grades and<br />
degree requirements, pre-requisite courses and course<br />
sequencing, background check and urine drug screens,<br />
medical and physical requirements, and students with<br />

The following must be completed prior to enrollment in<br />
any clinical nursing course: completion of a criminal<br />
background check and drug screen, medical/physical<br />
exam and specific immunizations, and certification in<br />
American Heart Association Basic Life Support for<br />
Healthcare Providers.<br />
Re-Admission<br />
Students who were unsuccessful in a nursing course may<br />
re-enroll in the nursing course, on a space avail- able<br />
basis, after all other qualified applicants have been<br />
accepted. Students must notify the nursing program head<br />
of their intent and must complete a re-entry form<br />
available on the <strong>SVCC</strong> website at http://www.southside.<br />
edu/nursing/lpn-duties#readmit.<br />
Program Notes<br />
1. Students must pass a drug dosage/calculation test at<br />
the beginning of the third semester.<br />
2. It is highly recommended that the student take as<br />
many non PNE courses as possible prior to entering<br />
the PNE course.<br />
Clinical Contracts<br />
Individual contracts are in effect with each affiliated<br />
clinical agency and these contracts may differ in requirements<br />
made of students. The general stipulations<br />

Special Costs<br />
In addition to the regular college tuition and fees, the<br />
nursing program requires uniforms, shoes, books, computer<br />
testing, medical exams, graduation pin, campus lab<br />
kit, immunizations, criminal background checks, and<br />
urine drug screens that all all at the cost of the student.<br />

The student should also consider child care,<br />
transportation, meals, and possibly parking costs, as the<br />
program requires travel to clinical facilities to complete<br />
