Length: Sixty-five credit hour program<br />
Purpose: The Information Systems Technology degree<br />
introduces students to a very broad field that includes<br />
many Information Technology (IT) sectors such as<br />
hardware, software, networking, web design, programming,<br />
information security, and computer installation,<br />
repair, troubleshooting, and support. This curriculum is<br />
designed to prepare the student for entry-level employment<br />
in this rapidly expanding field.<br />
Occupational Objectives: The program provides practical<br />
IT knowledge for office and technical personnel.<br />
Graduates of this curriculum may become software<br />
specialists, microcomputer operators, management<br />
trainees, office support personnel, web site developers,<br />
help desk specialists, PC support specialists, network<br />
support personnel, repair technicians, trainers, or other IT<br />
professionals. In some cases, graduates will be able<br />
to immediately fill positions. In others, they will require<br />
additional education, training, or industry certification to<br />
fill job roles.<br />
Program Description: The Information Systems Technology<br />
curriculum offers students an opportunity to<br />
prepare themselves for the multitude of career opportunities<br />
in many businesses and industries requiring the<br />
skills of an IT professional. The curriculum introduces<br />
the student to a variety of software including word processing,<br />
spreadsheet, database, presentation graphics,<br />
multimedia, web design, web graphics, and operating<br />
systems. In addition to application and system software,<br />
the curriculum includes personal computer hardware<br />
repair and troubleshooting courses, programming<br />
courses, networking courses, and courses in related areas<br />
such as business and accounting. Hardware and software<br />
are updated frequently in order to provide students with<br />
current knowledge as they enter the job market.<br />
