Emphasizes experimental and theoretical aspects of<br />

inorganic, organic, and biological chemistry. Discusses<br />

general chemistry concepts as they apply to issues within<br />

our society and environment. Designed for the nonscience<br />

major. Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total<br />

6 hours per week. Part I of II. Prerequisites: demonstrated<br />

proficiency on the placement examination or<br />

successful completion of ENF 1 or ENF 2 and MTE 1-3.<br />

CST 100 Principles of Public Speaking (3 Cr)<br />

Applies theory and principles of public address with<br />

emphasis on preparation and delivery. Lecture 3 hours<br />

CST 110 Introduction to Communication (3 Cr)<br />

Examines the elements affecting speech communication<br />

at the individual, small group, and public communication<br />

levels with emphasis on practice of communication<br />

at each level. Lecture 3 hours per week. Prerequisite:<br />

demonstrated proficiency on the placement examination<br />

or successful completion of ENF 1 or ENF 2.<br />

CST 131 Acting I<br />

(3 Cr)<br />

Develops personal resources and explores performance<br />

skills through such activities as theatre games, role<br />

playing, improvisation, work on basic script units, and<br />

performance of scenes. Part I of II. Lecture 2 hours.<br />

Laboratory 3 hour. Total 5 hours per week.<br />

CST 151 Film Appreciation I<br />

(3 Cr)<br />

Provides students with a critical understanding of film<br />

through the discussion and viewing of motion pictures<br />

with emphasis upon the study of film history and the<br />

forms and functions of film. Students will develop skills<br />

to analyze the shared social, cultural and historical influences<br />

of films and their contexts. Part I of II. Lecture<br />

3 hours per week.<br />

COS 81 Cosmetology Theory I<br />

(4 Cr)<br />

Covers bacteriology, finger waving, sterilization and<br />

sanitation, wet hair styling, draping, shampooing and<br />

rinsing, permanent waving, haircutting, and properties of<br />

the scalp and hair. Lecture 4 hours per week.<br />

COS 82 Cosmetology Theory II<br />

(5 Cr)<br />

Covers hair coloring, theory of massage, the salon business,<br />

chemical hair relaxing and soft curl permanent,<br />

facial and facial make-up, hair pressing, skin and its<br />

disorders, artistry and artificial nails, cells, anatomy and<br />

physiology, manicuring and pedicure, electricity and<br />

light therapy, nail and its disorders, chemistry and the<br />

State Board Review. Prerequisite: COS 81 or permission<br />

of the instructor. Lecture 5 hours per week.<br />

COS 195 Topics in<br />

(1-5 Cr)<br />

Provides an opportunity to explore topical areas of interest<br />

to or needed by students. May be used also for<br />

special honors courses. May be repeated for credit. Variable<br />

hours.<br />

COS 198 Seminar and Project<br />

(1-5 Cr)<br />

Requires completion of a project or research report<br />

related to the student’s occupational objectives and a<br />
