Introduces both the methods and theories in historical<br />
archaeology as practiced in the United States and worldwide.<br />
Includes time and space, field survey, excavation,<br />
archival and laboratory research. Includes field trips to<br />

HIS 187 Interpreting Material Culture (3 Cr)<br />
Surveys America’s material culture and provides techniques<br />
to interpret artifacts. Lecture 3 hours per week.<br />
HIS 188 Field Survey Techniques for Archaeology<br />
(3 Cr)<br />
Provides an introduction to basic field techniques used in<br />
surveying archaeological and architectural sites. Emphasizes<br />
hands-on experience in both classroom and<br />
field work. Includes methods to identify and record archaeological<br />
sites and standing structures, to nominate<br />
sites to the National Register of Historic Places, to address<br />
relevant preservation laws, to preserve, mark, and<br />
catalogue artifacts in the laboratory. Lecture 3 hours per<br />

Examines selected topics in the United States history<br />
which shaped the American experience, presented in<br />
film. Lecture 3 hours per week. Prerequisite: demonstrated<br />

Studies factors that led to the division between the States.<br />
Examines the war, the home fronts, and the era of<br />

Examines the cultural, political, and economic history of<br />

complex skills and techniques in understanding medical<br />

Provides a basic understanding of stress and its physical,<br />
