This is true; we hope that our family members are caring, loving and supportive, but know, that in this world, it can go both ways. Most can agree that nurturing parents who seek to teach, listen, encourage and provide good examples to their children give them the best start. They then, engage with the wider world through -#(#%%$).//& school and work and make friends that, hopefully, will nurture further that growth into an adult. The cycle then continues. Unfortunately, this isn`t always the case, and for a multitude of reasons the family can break apart. We cannot always know how things may turn out with family or friends. The church understands the value of family, a fellowship gathered around a” father figure” – God. The relationships we seek in our lives we hope to be reliable, honest, attentive to our needs however we may feel whether in a good or bad mood. This is the sign of a loving relationship that will last and will grow and learn from. If we are fortunate we may have this in our family, friends or both. But what if we are feeling alienated, not loved or cared for – whether we deserve it or not. God is faithful and forgiving. He listens and encourages us to talk to him, with each other, and to share Him with everyone. Through Him we are Love, Joy and Peace – for that is what He said, Jesus did, and we all can do. !"#$%&'"($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ There is no need for anyone to feel that they are not part of a family. I knew a man in a prison where I worked, where, through a number of repeat offences, he removed many relationships from around himself – family, friends, home, job, selfesteem. South Woodham Focus Millwood WI - The WI for inspiring women Our April meeting was our Annual G e n e r a l Meeting and Resolutions. Jan Nash was our WI advisor and she convened at our meeting. Jan is president of Billericay WI and enjoys gardening, she described the job of treasurer as the root of the plant, the job of secretary as the stem and the president as the flower. Our president Yvonne Frost decided to stand down after seven and a half years and Julia presented her with a beautiful pot plant as a thank you from all of us. Yvonne thanked all the committee for all their hard work over the last twelve months. We had a ballot and four people were nominated to be president and three out of four declined. Anne Turner accepted and will be our new president. Caroline has agreed to go on committee and will take over from Anne as treasurer. The rest of the committee have decided to stay on for another year and Susan Martin has agreed to go on committee. We then went on to our resolutions, and this year we only had one resolution this year to vote on. Yvonne explained to our newer members how important resolutions are and the history of them. One of the most famous ones was 'The Keep Britain Tidy’ campaign. Any member can put forward a resolution. 15,000 were put forward last year. A committee looks through them and eventually we have a short list which comes out in November. In January each WI selects the one they would most like to go forward and in April we all vote on it and then it goes to National in June and finally parliament. This years resolution is Mental Health Matters.The importance of parity between mental health and physical health illness and to lobby the government for better support for mental health and to make it acceptable to talk about mental health issues Yvonne went on to read the pros and cons. We then voted and we had the same number of votes for and against the resolution and no one abstained so it was a split vote. Traidcraft had a stall with a good selection of fair trade items to buy. Our Forth Coming Events We have a team ready for the first round of The County WI Quiz which is on Friday 1st June in Maldon On the 22nd of May we have an afternoon outing for a behind the scenes tour and talk at Chalkwell Auction Rooms On 19th September we have a theatre trip at The Palace theatre Westcliffe to see Ellio Pace and his band playing ‘The Billy Joel Song book’ Our next meeting is on Wednesday 23rd May at Champions Manor Hall 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. Our speaker is Sarah Ventris with a talk titled ’The Colour and Style Presentation’ New members are always welcome just come along. 13 FUN DAY at Rettendon Cricket club Fun day of cricket followed by a BBQ and the band Far- Q playing on Sunday 27th May. Club bar will be open all day, all welcome. Rettendon cricket club are holding kids coaching by Essex cricket. It runs from May to July every Friday night and is £40 per child including kit and bag. All links on the Rettendon home page. WANTED: new players for the first team which is in the premiership and second team in division four. We have a good fun day on a Sunday if new players are feeling a bit rusty. Great social day out for all the family, not to mention the exercise.
