Conclusions and recommendation<br />

Current interventions for (agro-)pastoral communities on rangeland management or groundwater based<br />

development often do not consider the semi-mobile livelihood of the targeted communities enough. Societal<br />

change takes time and thus an initial strengthening of traditional livelihood patterns is paramount to foster<br />

a sustainable transition. Anchoring the required skills and knowledge on multiple levels and stakeholders to<br />

move from a passive to an active management systems provides the basis for a successful upscaling. Still,<br />

further prototyping in other comparable ecosystems is necessary to develop this emerging into a good<br />

practice, which can easily be picked up and replicated by other actors.<br />
