The table below lists the activities approved using IFC funds since July 2010. IFC funds are 100%
committed. We are monitoring ongoing activities to ensure they are implemented as intended and deliver
results.
PPP Training
Workshop
This PPIAF grant is supporting a complete diagnostic
of the PPP enabling environment in Afghanistan. It
will lay the ground work for the future development of
a business plan for the PPP cell to be established in
the Ministry of Finance and the requisite guidelines
and procedures for the cell.
Analyze options for private sector participation in
Chad's water sector.
PPIAF funding is supporting: 1) an analysis of the
sector legal framework; 2) a review Societé
Tchadienne des Eaux (STE)'s current performance;
3) an analysis of the potential participation of the
private sector in the delivery of potable water
services; and 4) an assessment of STE's financial
situation.
The PPP workshop is designed to strengthen the
institutional capacity of Guinée-Bissau’s state-owned
electricity and water utility (EAGB) as well as that of
key stakeholders and government officials
responsible for other sectors with strong PPP
potential.
The workshop will be a learning platform for
government officials and other stakeholders to share
best practices and emerging lessons regarding the
design, implementation, and monitoring of PPPs. The
main beneficiaries of the workshop will be the newlyformed
EAGB PPP Commission, officials from the
Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of the Economy,
Planning and Regional Integration. It will have the
dual objective of strengthening the capacity of those
officials that will be engaging in preparing and
launching the transaction for a PPP in EAGB, and will
open the discussion to the participation of the private
sector in several other sectors that are of direct
interest for the country.
This work is ongoing in close
collaboration with C3P.
Following the PPIAF activity
the government adopted the
PPP strategy including the
recruitment of a private
operator under a 3-year
Service Contract. In June
2011 the World Bank
approved a $27 million
Additional Financing to
support this strategy. The
bidding process for
recruitment of the private
operator is expected to be
launched in April 2012.
The workshop took place in
Bissau from November 7- 11,
2011, attended by around 50
participants. A diverse roster
of speakers contributed to
strengthening the capacity of
government officials working
on the EAGB PPP project as
well as stakeholders in other
sectors.
The training provided an
opportunity for a robust
dialogue on infrastructure
PPPs in general, and the
EAGB PPP project in
particular, which is currently
under preparation, also with
PPIAF support.
