Dear VV,
The Football club once again feels it has
recourse to question the content in an article by
Miles Green, P&TGRS chairman in the last edition of
VV because it still contains inaccuracies, falsehoods
and misleading out of context comments and also
crucial omissions where necessary to suit the RS
arguments against the football club’s 9 hours per
week floodlight application.
Mr Green states that the RS can only comment
on planning applications. We would like to ask
what authority the RS had to comment negatively
on the application because the football club have
had many queries from residents about who
sanctioned the objection because the impression
we are getting is that the residents, who are all
members, were apparently NOT consulted about
whether they agreed with the rejection of this very
evocative subject or not. Surely that is not
democracy in action?
The point was re-iterated that teams play or train
most days of the week. At the Chiltern District
Council planning meeting what was actually said
was that the 28 teams train and play at THE CLUB
most days of the week. A subtle but crucial
difference which for the Village Voice version has
been diluted somewhat with the omission of the
vital “at the club”.
The comment regarding players and supporters
coming from “outside Penn & Tylers Green” is very
inflammatory to our members as many players and
supporters have very strong ties to the village but
have, over the years and generations, been forced
out by economical forces meaning they cannot
now afford to live in the village. The same reverse
argument could be applied to some of those who
object and who we suspect absolutely have no
historical lineage with the village and unlike a lot of
our members, are lucky enough to be able to
afford to live in the village. So these persons have
replaced the real locals, who incidentally used to
use their back gates to walk out and support the
football club. Mr Green fails to mention this as this
would have been the case 40 years ago when he
moved in.
Mr Green intimates that the FC would wish to
aspire to progress to FA Step 5. The reason we are
having to apply for floodlights is because the FA
are ,against our will, forcing the floodlights issue
upon us to stay at the F.A.level 6 we play at. The
comment made by Mr Green is therefore pure
speculation and not based on fact.
The comment about the 2012 letter to residents
is completely taken out of context as the concurrent
fight with the FA is no longer an option. At the time
of the letter we did not plan to have floodlights
(and did not need to) as we were just levelling and
improving our pitch. Also, times have moved on and
six years down the line the floodlights are a
mandatory requirement imposed by the FA to stay
at our current level of football.
The point about the street lights and light
spillage cannot be made, for impartiality reasons,
without mentioning the Tennis Club Lights which
are on FC land, and on potentially 6 nights of the
week and spill out much more light than the
proposed football club floodlights.
What detrimental impact the floodlights could
possibly have on the front common is highly
contentious in our opinion as they would be wound
down and impossible to see from the front common
in daylight hours, unlike the tennis club lights which
are clearly visible from the common even in
daylight hours.
There is no growth now or intended with this
application. The RS false information over this point
is once again speculation and not based on fact.
We no longer train at the club except Saturday
mornings, so there has, we believe, been a
reduction in usage for training purposes. Many of
our teams therefore train and play matches at other
venues away from French school Meadow.
So, in conclusion , you say the residents society
have no impact on planning decisions and have a
right to an opinion.
That is an undisputable fact Mr Green but is your
opinion the TRUE democratic opinion of the whole
residents society or just yours and your committee?
You very cleverly sow the seeds of doubt and
question our intentions by publishing misleading
information, out of context comments and continue
to leave out vital relevant information in your
presentation to give residents completely the
wrong impression of what is actually going on at
Penn & Tylers Green Football Club.
We will keep responding at every opportunity to
the publishing of misleading information to protect
the good name of Penn & Tylers Green Football
Club and the reputation it has In the village and the
wider football community.
Many thanks, Tony Hurst, Chairman, responding on
behalf of Penn & Tylers Green Football Club
