three-quarters of those writing in support, mostly
in the form of a standard template e-mail, were
from outside Penn & Tylers Green. Indeed, the
Planning Officers' report noted the strength of the
opposition to the application. It is by no means a
one-sided argument.
As for future expansion - the Club's Planning and
Heritage Statement submitted with their
application, says on p. 7 para (i) that the Club's
endeavour is to 'progress into the highest possible
league which realistically is Step 6 (the current
status) and as a maximum Step 5 (one level up)'. FA
requirements for Step 5 require covered
accommodation for 200 spectators of which at
least 100 must be seated. And at p. 7 (ii) under the
heading 'Trends in the number of members/teams
using the facility', it says 'The Club has 28 teams
using its facilities throughout the season'. Only
two of these teams would appear to need the new
floodlights. The Planning Officer's report (p.38)
notes that the Club has 800 members. Clearly
expansion must have its limits.
As we have so frequently said, we wish the
Football Club well and are sure that it will continue
to prosper. On this issue, we will have to agree to
differ. Miles Green
Dear VV,
My name is Aurélie
Johnson. I have lived in
Tylers Green for 11 years and have 2 children who
attended TG First and Middle Schools. Some of you
will know my name from teaching French and
Spanish at the local schools. Together with another
TG resident Jeraldine Curran, a nutritionist and
mum of 3 boys, we have decided to do our bit for
the planet and tackle plastic on a local scale. We
are passionate about the issue of plastic and want
to do something concrete to try and change
people’s behaviour. Jeraldine and I have become
the local representatives for Surfers Against
Sewage www.sas.org.uk, which is a marine
conservation and campaigning charity, whose top
priority is to tackle society’s throwaway, excessive
and unnecessary plastic culture.
Our end goal is to award TG with Plastic Free
status, by working with local authorities, schools
and businesses and identify obvious ways of
reducing the use of plastic in their day to day
activities. We are only just starting and there is a lot
of work to do, so if you would like to join our team
and help us with this urgent cause, please feel free
to contact us at aureliecjohnson@hotmail.com
already do to cut down on plastic!
Here are some ideas for what you can do in
P&TG to reduce your consumption of plastic:
- Use the local butcher and take your own
containers with you
- Sign up for milk deliveries, the old fashion way!
- Say NO to straws and stirrers at the pub
- When you want to grab a take away coffee,
take your own reusable cup, get used to keeping
it in the car. No cup, no coffee!
- Take your own bags when you go shopping
(Most of us do that already!)
- If you have a party, boycott balloons and use
flower petals, plant a tree, paint a stone, blow
bubbles, use paper pompoms, bunting, kites,
garden spinners, floating flowers, light
candles… balloonsblow.org/environmentallyfriendly-alternatives
Dear VV,
Criticism without weighing the facts... I have
been a Resident since 1958 and supported the
P&TG RS for as long as I can remember, and
experience has demonstrated it to be fair and
helpful in all our village issues.
I have understood that anyone living here can
be a member. Any concerns about local problems
should be appropriately raised and not criticised
via social media, without weighing the facts.
We live in an area of natural beauty, where
peace and harmony can still be experienced. This
is also ensured by our local District Councils
sometimes with housing problems pressured by
Government plans. It is wiser to allow restrictions,
if alternative possibilities exist.
It could be seen that I am referring to the local
Football Club’s over-increase of application for
more facilities at their ground in Elm Road,
inevitably leading to impossible overdevelopment
of space available. I support sport with nothing
personally against football.
Over the years P & TG FC’s training of
youngsters, together with matches of local
amateur clubs in the past. Apparently, it is now
important for ambitious clubs to join competitive
League membership, inevitably extending to
wider boundaries and increased size.
I feel this needs to be taken into account before
too late, and new grounds should be sought, that
have more space available for players, fans and
social contacts, and with sufficient parking space.
This is not going to be possible in this village, and
we are already experiencing considerable parking
problems on match days. Name and address supplied.
