Holy Trinity & St Margaret's
After the weather literally blowing hot and cold
over the last few weeks we are looking forward
to those events that can only take place in the
summer as good weather is required. Of course,
the lush greenery that surrounds us in the fields,
woods and gardens is an inevitable result of
plenty of rain – even in the summer months. So
it is as well that we are British and get out there
anywhere. I have a photograph of the scene just
before one of our Songs of Praise on the
common services where we are pushing a large
puddle of water off the roof of the marquee.
Such is life.
This years Songs of Praise on the Common is
Sunday 15th July. We start at 4pm with a Cream
Tea followed by our service of introductions,
hymns and prayers at 5pm. Over the years we
have had some amazing (and emotional)
introductions as folk have spoken about why a
particular hymn is important to them.
On Sunday 3rd June Holy Trinity welcomes
all pets (with their owners) for our Pet Service
at 3pm. Come and give thanks for all of God’s
creation and especially the love and comfort of
our pets. If you have lost a pet during the year,
you can come and remember and give thanks.
As ever, we will have a pet parade where I will
pray for God’s blessing on each of our pets.
There is plenty of room for “all creatures great
and small, all things wise and wonderful, the
Lord God made them all”. It is a delightful
service and if you do not have a pet it may be
worth borrowing one so that you can come!
As ever, St Margaret’s church and churchyard
will be open for the afternoon of Sunday 1st
July as we participate in the Village Open
Gardens event.
The first week of the school holidays at the
end of July sees the start of our Lighthouse
Holiday Clubs. There is a choice now between
A recent addition is an address based on Genesis
1:20-27 concerning the fifth and sixth days of
the creation week. The fifth day deals with the
creation of the animal life which will inhabit the
waters and the skies.
Verse 26 states concerning the sixth day,
“And God said, Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness”. So the Trinitarian God
resolves to make man with a distinct likeness to
Himself. This was not the case with the other
living creatures made on day five or the land
animals earlier on day six. Quite simply, the
animals are not made in the image of God,
whereas man is.
This tells us how special man is. Unlike the
animals, his body is erect, upright and upwardlooking,
for man has been created not merely as
an earthbound creature whose existence will be
obliterated upon death, but for eternal
fellowship with his Maker. He therefore
