The death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ are the most important<br />
events in all human history. They demonstrate the essential sinfulness of man<br />
and how he might be forgiven and receive salvation and eternal life.<br />

When the Lord Jesus Christ died on the Cross, He was bearing the penalty of<br />
sin, namely death, which all people deserve (Romans 3:23). He died as the<br />
sinner’s Substitute, as a sacrificial lamb, because, 123-456-7890<br />
were we to pay the penalty<br />
ourselves for our sins, we would be paying it for all eternity.<br />
So the Lord Jesus, the Son of God, died in our place, thereby satisfying the<br />
justice of God and opening up a way into God the Father’s presence. If Christ<br />
had not died, no one could ever approach God, being far too sinful. No one<br />
possesses sufficient goodness to come near to God through his or her own<br />
merits. Nor can ‘good works’ such as donations to charity ever cancel out<br />
sins (see Luke 18:9-14). This is why we all need a Saviour to rescue us.<br />
