P&TGRS AGM<br />
& SOCIAL <strong>2018</strong><br />
Another successful year for the P&TGRS was<br />
reported at the very well attended P&TG<br />
Residents’ Society AGM which was held on<br />
11th May at St Margaret’s Parish Rooms.<br />
Our President, Earl Howe, started his address<br />
by saying how proud he was to be associated<br />
with the Society. He praised the Society for so<br />
effectively carrying out its charitable activities<br />
which contribute greatly to the reasons why<br />
people want to come to live in P&TG.<br />
This was endorsed further by Chairman,<br />
Miles Green, whose presentation of the Annual<br />
Report for 2017 included reports on: -<br />
• <strong>Village</strong> <strong>Voice</strong>, which is independently<br />
edited and<br />
delivered free of<br />
charge to local<br />
households, goes<br />
from strength to<br />
strength keeping<br />
P&TG residents<br />
abreast of local<br />
activities and<br />
developments.<br />
The P&TGRS<br />

website and social<br />
media forums are<br />
also developing<br />
well.<br />
• The <strong>Village</strong><br />
Pre-School has a<br />
waiting list due to<br />
an outstanding<br />
Ofsted Report.<br />
• Common Wood<br />
tree thinning of<br />
trees. achieved a<br />
significant income<br />
from timber sales<br />
alongside the environmental benefits<br />
• A careful monitoring of the future use of<br />
the Penn School site<br />
• Careful consideration of the diverse local<br />
planning issues particularly within our Green<br />
Belt, AONB and Conservation Area. The<br />
P&TGRS arranged a meeting to enable a<br />
discussion on the Government’s proposals to<br />
move to a single county Unitary Authority.<br />
Finance Director, David Harris, reported an<br />
annual surplus of £16k giving the Society a<br />
healthy balance of £67k which is not ring<br />
fenced and is available to support suitable<br />
community projects.<br />
David thanked John Bettinson, retiring after 4<br />
years as Treasurer. The Chairman paid special<br />
tribute to Brian Bennett, retiring after 15 years<br />
as the RS Secretary.<br />
After the business of the<br />
AGM was concluded,<br />
Miles Green gave a very<br />
interesting illustrated talk<br />
‘Penn & Tylers Green<br />
1,000 Years Ago’ which<br />
explored the background to<br />
how this area of the<br />
Chilterns developed and<br />
how Penn got its name.<br />
The evening concluded,<br />
as it started, with the<br />
opportunity to socialise<br />
over refreshments.<br />

As I write this the weather has improved<br />
dramatically and the wood is now drying out<br />
although still soft in places. As someone<br />
commented on Facebook it was definitely very<br />
wet primarily because the pond which has<br />
raised sides had water. The change in the wood<br />
is rapid from being open and a grey brown<br />
colour to a beautiful pale lime green which<br />
positively glows when the Sun shines. It looks<br />
as though the Oak has beaten the ash to produce<br />
leaves so if the old saying is true we could have<br />
a good summer. Certainly the May bank holiday<br />
is outstanding.<br />
I have to say thank you to all the volunteers<br />
who turned out during the winter months to<br />
help with some of the tasks.One early task was<br />
to clear the drainage channels and this proved<br />
fortuitous for the heavy rain. However with the<br />
amount of silt washed down it looks like we<br />

will have to do them again. We did have the<br />
help of Samuel shy horse to move some logs<br />
but the heavy wet weather was against us to<br />
finish the task. We hope to get them in again<br />
however they are planning to move to Devon so<br />
if anyone knows of anybody who has a horse<br />
that likes pulling logs we would welcome their<br />
assistance. Alternatively if anybody has an old<br />
4x4 at the end of its life, or even an old tractor<br />
which we could keep in the wood we would<br />
consider it to use for pulling heavy material.<br />
The other item we are looking for is a trailer so<br />
that we could prepare timber for firewood to<br />
deliver locally. All offers of help welcome.<br />
One of the questions I got was about White<br />
powder appearing on trails. This was nothing<br />
illegal and is basically flour put down by the<br />
High Wycombe Hash Harriers . You can see<br />
their details at https://www.hwh3.co.uk/. It's<br />
around about the 5 mile run which starts and<br />
finish at a local pub.<br />
If you are part of a local organisation or even<br />
a private individual who wants to hold an event<br />
in the world please contact me beforehand. This<br />
is so we don't get clashes, that any possible<br />
safety or insurance issues are sorted and that I<br />
can explain to people who ask me about what is<br />
happening. I had a phone call about two young<br />
lads who appeared to be behaving suspiciously<br />
but it turned out they were taking videos about<br />
clothing Wanting natural black backdrop. We<br />
generally can accommodate most requests but<br />
we have to bear in mind we share with nature so<br />
any activity needs to consider this.<br />
