P&TGRS AGM
& SOCIAL 2018
Another successful year for the P&TGRS was
reported at the very well attended P&TG
Residents’ Society AGM which was held on
11th May at St Margaret’s Parish Rooms.
Our President, Earl Howe, started his address
by saying how proud he was to be associated
with the Society. He praised the Society for so
effectively carrying out its charitable activities
which contribute greatly to the reasons why
people want to come to live in P&TG.
This was endorsed further by Chairman,
Miles Green, whose presentation of the Annual
Report for 2017 included reports on: -
• Village Voice, which is independently
edited and
delivered free of
charge to local
households, goes
from strength to
strength keeping
P&TG residents
abreast of local
activities and
developments.
The P&TGRS
EARL HOWE
website and social
media forums are
also developing
well.
• The Village
Pre-School has a
waiting list due to
an outstanding
Ofsted Report.
• Common Wood
tree thinning of
trees. achieved a
significant income
from timber sales
alongside the environmental benefits
• A careful monitoring of the future use of
the Penn School site
• Careful consideration of the diverse local
planning issues particularly within our Green
Belt, AONB and Conservation Area. The
P&TGRS arranged a meeting to enable a
discussion on the Government’s proposals to
move to a single county Unitary Authority.
Finance Director, David Harris, reported an
annual surplus of £16k giving the Society a
healthy balance of £67k which is not ring
fenced and is available to support suitable
community projects.
David thanked John Bettinson, retiring after 4
years as Treasurer. The Chairman paid special
tribute to Brian Bennett, retiring after 15 years
as the RS Secretary.
After the business of the
AGM was concluded,
Miles Green gave a very
interesting illustrated talk
‘Penn & Tylers Green
1,000 Years Ago’ which
explored the background to
how this area of the
Chilterns developed and
how Penn got its name.
The evening concluded,
as it started, with the
opportunity to socialise
over refreshments.
WOODLAND
& GREEN SPACES
As I write this the weather has improved
dramatically and the wood is now drying out
although still soft in places. As someone
commented on Facebook it was definitely very
wet primarily because the pond which has
raised sides had water. The change in the wood
is rapid from being open and a grey brown
colour to a beautiful pale lime green which
positively glows when the Sun shines. It looks
as though the Oak has beaten the ash to produce
leaves so if the old saying is true we could have
a good summer. Certainly the May bank holiday
is outstanding.
I have to say thank you to all the volunteers
who turned out during the winter months to
help with some of the tasks. One early task was
to clear the drainage channels and this proved
fortuitous for the heavy rain. However with the
amount of silt washed down it looks like we
will have to do them again. We did have the
help of Samuel shy horse to move some logs
but the heavy wet weather was against us to
finish the task. We hope to get them in again
however they are planning to move to Devon so
if anyone knows of anybody who has a horse
that likes pulling logs we would welcome their
assistance. Alternatively if anybody has an old
4x4 at the end of its life, or even an old tractor
which we could keep in the wood we would
consider it to use for pulling heavy material.
The other item we are looking for is a trailer so
that we could prepare timber for firewood to
deliver locally. All offers of help welcome.
One of the questions I got was about White
powder appearing on trails. This was nothing
illegal and is basically flour put down by the
High Wycombe Hash Harriers . You can see
their details at https://www.hwh3.co.uk/. It's
around about the 5 mile run which starts and
finish at a local pub.
If you are part of a local organisation or even
a private individual who wants to hold an event
in the world please contact me beforehand. This
is so we don't get clashes, that any possible
safety or insurance issues are sorted and that I
can explain to people who ask me about what is
happening. I had a phone call about two young
lads who appeared to be behaving suspiciously
but it turned out they were taking videos about
clothing Wanting natural black backdrop. We
generally can accommodate most requests but
we have to bear in mind we share with nature so
any activity needs to consider this.
So enjoy our wood. Mike Morley
