And Our Shows Go On!<br />

Where has this year gone! We can talk<br />

about all the shows that have closed, but<br />

that would be self-defeating. We could talk about<br />

all the new shows that have opened, but that<br />

wouldn’t take up much space.<br />

So, let’s talk about the shows The <strong>Vegas</strong> <strong>Voice</strong> are presenting, with a<br />

teaser of what’s to come next year. And maybe a little about what you<br />

can do next month.<br />

In October, The <strong>Vegas</strong> <strong>Voice</strong> will be presenting “Lullaby of Broadway”<br />

featuring the vocals of Genevieve Dew and Randal Keith and be<br />

accompanied by Bill Fayne. This all takes place at Sun City MacDonald<br />

Ranch on Saturday October 20th at 7 pm.<br />

After that show, we gear up for our Holiday/Christmas Shows, of<br />

which we have two in December. One at Sun City Summerlin in the<br />

Starbright Theatre, and at Sun City MacDonald Ranch.<br />

We’re calling the shows “Merry Mayhem - Memories & Magic of<br />

the Holidays.” It will feature some of the top performers in <strong>Vegas</strong>:<br />

Bruce Ewing, Rhonda Carlson, Brenda Mandabach, Randal<br />

Keith… and more.<br />

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves but next year we’ve planning<br />

to schedule at least a dozen shows. We will be revisiting the Italian<br />

American Club for 4 shows next year with other venues around the<br />

valley. Stay tuned for some exciting times across the Valley.<br />

But let’s see what we can do right now! You can see Craig Canter<br />

perform every Tuesday night from 7-10 pm at Trattoria Reggiano in<br />

Downtown Summerlin or swing by The Golden Tiki in Chinatown to<br />

hear a killer jazz trio featuring David Marinelli, Charles McNeal<br />

and Tony Felicetta.<br />

Catch a group called The Fab “The Ultimate Beatles Music<br />

Celebration.” They will be at some of the Stations Casinos during the<br />

Nieve Malandra<br />

month of September. There’s entertainment at the Mermaid Lounge in<br />

the Silverton Casino, the bar in the Artisan Hotel, jazz every Thursday<br />

at the American Gypsy Café on East Flamingo and weekend vocalists at<br />

the Barrymore, such as Laura Shaffer and Nieve Malandra.<br />

So you can see that there’s plenty to do every night of the week. Most<br />

have no cover or minimums but buying a drink or getting a bite to eat<br />

will keep these venues open with the great local talent that we enjoy.<br />

Barry’s Back!<br />

Barry Manilow is back in <strong>Vegas</strong> and<br />

thousands of people are filling the Westgate<br />

International Theater to enjoy this multi-talented<br />

mega star’s show, “The Hits Come Home!” The<br />

glow sticks and 3-D glasses being given out heighten the excitement<br />

before the show. It is clear that his fans love him as the show moves<br />

along at a perfect pace.<br />

It’s A Miracle, his opener, is greeted with thunderous applause which<br />

is repeated frequently; often with standing ovations. Barry says he is the<br />

coolest man in town and proves it for 90 minutes packed with his hits.<br />

This 75 year young performer has an astounding inventory of<br />

familiar tunes and lyrics. Barry reminds us - they have melody. The<br />

audience is encouraged and delighted to sing those songs and melodies<br />

along with Barry.<br />

The Brooklyn native recounts his childhood and we are treated<br />

to black and white pictures from that era as he tells the story of his<br />

grandfather taking him to sing and record his voice on a 78 rpm record.<br />

I Can’t Smile Without You, Mandy, I Write the Songs ... This show<br />

is 100 % Barry. His 3 backup singers and orchestra only make it better.<br />

And Barry frequently sits at the piano. He sings When Will I See You<br />

Again and we hope it will be soon.<br />

Barry recalls that he never planned on being an entertainer. He<br />

wanted to be a composer and songwriter like George Gershwin. So he<br />

wrote – jingles and commercials.<br />

“Like a Good Neighbor, State Farm is There.” That was his. And “I<br />

am stuck on band-aids.”<br />

This mega-star writes, plays, and performs the songs – like no one<br />

else.<br />

Since this is Las <strong>Vegas</strong>, Barry’s got costume changes. And the big<br />

<strong>Vegas</strong> finish - Copa Cabana! Barry Manilow at the Westgate. A limited<br />

engagement so get your tickets now.<br />
