And Our Shows Go On!
By: Evan Davis / Entertainment Editor
Where has this year gone! We can talk
about all the shows that have closed, but
that would be self-defeating. We could talk about
all the new shows that have opened, but that
wouldn’t take up much space.
So, let’s talk about the shows The Vegas Voice are presenting, with a
teaser of what’s to come next year. And maybe a little about what you
can do next month.
In October, The Vegas Voice will be presenting “Lullaby of Broadway”
featuring the vocals of Genevieve Dew and Randal Keith and be
accompanied by Bill Fayne. This all takes place at Sun City MacDonald
Ranch on Saturday October 20th at 7 pm.
After that show, we gear up for our Holiday/Christmas Shows, of
which we have two in December. One at Sun City Summerlin in the
Starbright Theatre, and at Sun City MacDonald Ranch.
We’re calling the shows “Merry Mayhem - Memories & Magic of
the Holidays.” It will feature some of the top performers in Vegas:
Bruce Ewing, Rhonda Carlson, Brenda Mandabach, Randal
Keith… and more.
Not to get too far ahead of ourselves but next year we’ve planning
to schedule at least a dozen shows. We will be revisiting the Italian
American Club for 4 shows next year with other venues around the
valley. Stay tuned for some exciting times across the Valley.
But let’s see what we can do right now! You can see Craig Canter
perform every Tuesday night from 7-10 pm at Trattoria Reggiano in
Downtown Summerlin or swing by The Golden Tiki in Chinatown to
hear a killer jazz trio featuring David Marinelli, Charles McNeal
and Tony Felicetta.
Catch a group called The Fab “The Ultimate Beatles Music
Celebration.” They will be at some of the Stations Casinos during the
Nieve Malandra
month of September. There’s entertainment at the Mermaid Lounge in
the Silverton Casino, the bar in the Artisan Hotel, jazz every Thursday
at the American Gypsy Café on East Flamingo and weekend vocalists at
the Barrymore, such as Laura Shaffer and Nieve Malandra.
So you can see that there’s plenty to do every night of the week. Most
have no cover or minimums but buying a drink or getting a bite to eat
will keep these venues open with the great local talent that we enjoy.
Barry’s Back!
By: Dianne Davis / That’s Entertainment
Barry Manilow is back in Vegas and
thousands of people are filling the Westgate
International Theater to enjoy this multi-talented
mega star’s show, “The Hits Come Home!” The
glow sticks and 3-D glasses being given out heighten the excitement
before the show. It is clear that his fans love him as the show moves
along at a perfect pace.
It’s A Miracle, his opener, is greeted with thunderous applause which
is repeated frequently; often with standing ovations. Barry says he is the
coolest man in town and proves it for 90 minutes packed with his hits.
This 75 year young performer has an astounding inventory of
familiar tunes and lyrics. Barry reminds us - they have melody. The
audience is encouraged and delighted to sing those songs and melodies
along with Barry.
The Brooklyn native recounts his childhood and we are treated
to black and white pictures from that era as he tells the story of his
grandfather taking him to sing and record his voice on a 78 rpm record.
I Can’t Smile Without You, Mandy, I Write the Songs ... This show
is 100 % Barry. His 3 backup singers and orchestra only make it better.
And Barry frequently sits at the piano. He sings When Will I See You
Again and we hope it will be soon.
Barry recalls that he never planned on being an entertainer. He
wanted to be a composer and songwriter like George Gershwin. So he
wrote – jingles and commercials.
“Like a Good Neighbor, State Farm is There.” That was his. And “I
am stuck on band-aids.”
This mega-star writes, plays, and performs the songs – like no one
else.
Since this is Las Vegas, Barry’s got costume changes. And the big
Vegas finish - Copa Cabana! Barry Manilow at the Westgate. A limited
engagement so get your tickets now.
