DR. LAURIE NADEL: HEALING
AFTER DISASTER
Wednesday, Sept. 5, 6:15pm
As a journalist who covered tragedies
around the world, Dr. Laurie Nadel saw
the urgent need to help people whose
88
lives were shattered by violence. As a
therapist, she created “emotional first
aid tools” to calm acute stress reactions
after catastrophes and led a program for
teenagers whose fathers were killed in
the 9/11 attacks. When Hurricane Sandy
destroyed her own home in 2012, she
discovered the steps that helped her rebuild
her life. In The Five Gifts: Discovering Hope,
Healing, and Strength When Disaster
Strikes (with a foreword by Dan Rather),
Dr. Laurie Nadel offers a psychological
roadmap through cycles of shock and
trauma to help readers discover peace after
disaster.
a dangerous secret. He may look like an
ordinary 41-year-old, but owing to a rare
condition, he’s been alive for centuries.
Tom has lived history: performing with
Shakespeare, exploring the high seas with
Captain Cook, and sharing cocktails with
Fitzgerald. Now, he just wants an ordinary
life. Unfortunately for Tom, the secretive
group, which protects people like him, has
one rule: Never fall in love.
