ARTIST OF THE MONTH: LEI YU<br />

Sept. 1 through 29<br />

Lei Yu is a local artist and designer. In her<br />

paintings, she gives the water life. She<br />

interprets memorable moments – nature,<br />

places, people, and culture – and hopes<br />

that each one gives her audiences the same<br />

bliss and enjoyment as it does for her. She<br />

hopes all of her paintings can bring people<br />

good energies. She paints mainly with<br />

acrylic and oil. She also uses mixed media<br />

to create textures.<br />

DR. LAURIE NADEL: HEALING<br />

AFTER DISASTER<br />

Wednesday, Sept. 5, 6:15pm<br />

As a journalist who covered tragedies<br />

around the world, Dr. Laurie Nadel saw<br />

the urgent need to help people whose<br />

lives were shattered by violence. As a<br />

therapist, she created “emotional first<br />

aid tools” to calm acute stress reactions<br />

after catastrophes and led a program for<br />

teenagers whose fathers were killed in<br />

the 9/11 attacks. When Hurricane Sandy<br />

destroyed her own home in 2012, she<br />

discovered the steps that helped her rebuild<br />

her life. In The Five Gifts: Discovering Hope,<br />

Healing, and Strength When Disaster<br />

Strikes (with a foreword by Dan Rather),<br />

Dr. Laurie Nadel offers a psychological<br />

roadmap through cycles of shock and<br />

trauma to help readers discover peace after<br />

up with young budding<br />

authors, grades k to 5th,<br />

to guide them through the<br />

story creation process. Each<br />

child will write and illustrate a<br />

mini story to take home. This<br />

group meets once a month, and a<br />

different genre will be explored each<br />

month.<br />

ADULT COLORING BOOK ART<br />

Tuesday, Sept. 11th, 10:30am to noon<br />

Decompress and let your mind wander<br />

while enjoying this latest creative trend:<br />

coloring books for adults. We’ll add some<br />

soothing background music and light<br />

snacks to create a little “me time” in your<br />

day. We will provide the supplies or bring<br />

your own.
