SYNCHROCHAIN® Belts<br />

Designed for high dynamic stresses up to 40 m/s<br />

CONTI® SYNCHROCHAIN combines high tear resistance with exceptional<br />

tensile strength, making it one of the world’s best performers among today’s<br />

timing belts.<br />

This high-performance timing belt, with its newly developed CTD profile,<br />

makes extreme applications possible. Its original design and selected materials<br />

ensures reliable power transmission for high torques and high dynamic<br />

stressing. As the first belt of this high-performance class it permits reverse<br />

flexing in multi-pulley drives and is therefore the ideal alternative<br />

to chain drives approximately half the strength of the parent material.<br />

CONTI® SYNCHROCHAIN timing<br />

belts were designed for applications<br />

in drives with extremely high<br />

acceleration forces, as well as for the<br />

reliable transmission of high torque at<br />

low speeds. To deal with the impact<br />

loads occurring in the case of abrupt<br />

acceleration and deceleration, the belt<br />

employs a compound which absorbs<br />

even maximum surges and guarantees<br />

the maintenance-free functioning of<br />

pulsating drives in continuous service.<br />

A timing belt with tear strength and<br />

resistance to tooth deformation is<br />

required for transmission for high<br />

torque at low speeds, the CONTI®<br />

SYNCHROCHAIN is equipped with<br />

ultra-strong Aramid tensile members.<br />

Embedded in the heavy-duty<br />

compound, these tensile members cope<br />

with extremely high starting torques,<br />

permanently and reliably. In addition, it<br />

is especially well suited to high power<br />

applications involving extreme dynamic<br />

load, at belt speeds of up to 40 m/s.<br />

Properties<br />

Synchronous transmission<br />

CONTI® SYNCHROCHAIN high-performance timing belt<br />

transmit rotary motions at exact angles and a constant<br />

belt speed. The precise tooth match between belt and<br />

drive pulley ensures a high degree of synchronicity and<br />

reliably prevents belt ratcheting.<br />

Compact and economical belt configurations<br />

The high tear resistance and high dynamic load carrying<br />

capacity of CONTI® SYNCHROCHAIN high performance<br />

belts allow for synchronous drives even where space is at<br />

a premium. This establishes ideal conditions for the design<br />

of economically compact, lightweight drives.<br />

No lubrication and maintenance needed<br />

CONTI® SYNCHROCHAIN high-performance belts are<br />

maintenance-free. No lubricating or re-tightening is<br />

required. Their construction and the materials used ensure<br />

a constant belt tension.<br />

Low-noise operation<br />

The optimized sectional match between timing belt and<br />

pulley and a belt construction with a multiply treated<br />

Polyamide fabric, plus a dramatic reduction in the required<br />

timing belt width that using CONTI® SYNCHROCHAIN<br />

high-performance timing belts afford, all make for<br />

considerably less noise, even at high belt speeds.<br />

The newly developed CTD-profile (CTD: Conti Torque<br />

Drive) is the symbiosis of the HTD and the STD profile and<br />

combines the advantages of both in a single profile. The<br />

arch-shaped pulley-entry geometry, on the one hand, and<br />

the higher tooth, on the other, provide harmonic tooth<br />

meshing and therefore ultra smooth running. At the same<br />

time, it provides excellent protection against belt slip at<br />

high torque.<br />
