South 8 Woodham Focus South Woodham Focus EYOTT SAILING CLUB REGATTA WEEK were learning how to compete on equal terms with more experienced sailors. Results 1st Helm – Mike Ettershank 2nd Helm – John Hancox 3rd Helm – Matt Picke s s 1st Crew – Jamie 2nd Crew – Jack 3rd Crew – Hayley Five days of dinghy racing in South Woodham Ferrers The last week in August provided perfect conditions for Eyott Sailing Club’s annual regatta with warm and sunny afternoons and light to medium winds. The five-day competition was open to all local sailors and it was great to host members of Up River Sailing Club, Hullbridge. As well as sailing the week included family activities at the club during the day with social events most evenings. The racing was as competitive as ever with 77 boat starts during the week. It was great to see competitors spanning the generations with sailors from 7 to over 70 years old enjoying their sport. The racing was very close especially among the Heron and Comet fleet where many of the younger competitors Whilst the fleet was racing non-sailing family members and supporters enjoyed the sun and the peaceful surroundings of the club whilst the children (of all ages) competed in the week-long crabbing completion. This year’s winner was Tierney with a 68 gram ‘nipper’ that was returned safely to the river after it had terrorised the judge during the ‘weigh in’. The now-traditional evening events included; a light hearted game of rounders at Saltcoats Park followed by tea and biscuits back at the club, a fantastic treasure hunt in the club grounds and a quiz with fish & chip supper in the clubhouse. The week ended with the prize giving, BBQ and buffet supper on Friday evening. Eyott Sailing Club organises taster days for anyone interested in dinghy sailing or kayaking.
