Balance, by its very nature requires difference, variety. One of the reasons Dorset is so delightful is the marvellous variety of habitat and landscapes. These variations provide diversity in terms of landscapes and seascapes, which in turn means Dorset is home to a wonderful array of wildlife species. We have grasslands, wildflower meadows, woodlands of all shapes and sizes, wet, dry and humid heaths, marshes, bays, coves, reefs and beaches, to name a few - all here in Dorset. The brilliant news is that Dorset businesses are getting involved in looking after our unique county. Employers are helping to keep the places where their employees live interesting and beautiful, and whole teams, from management to workers, are supporting the areas in which their businesses are located. ‘Think global, act local’ really does work! At Dorset Wildlife Trust, volunteering is at the heart of what we do. Volunteers are our soul and our engine, powering improvement, achieving change, inspiring people to ‘do for Dorset’. Our corporate volunteers are a tremendous part of this, and Dorset is lucky to have them. Corporate volunteering starts at the top in Dorset. The Senior Directors of Neal’s Yard Remedies came out to clean Kimmeridge Beach with us. The Senior Management Team of Siemens, Poole, came out to handdig a pond. The Southern Cooperative has committed a tremendous £30,000 to support volunteer work across the county. Barclays build bridges and boardwalks, and Battens build teams and listen to budget statements whilst working on nature reserves. We couldn’t achieve all these things without our corporate supporters and their staff; it really does take a whole lot of people power to work for wildlife. We value every single volunteer and each and every task, and we thank them heartily for their help. It truly is a marvellous feeling to do something for wildlife and your county. You are always invited to join Dorset Wildlife Trust with your colleagues or on your own. Either way, you’ll find a genuinely warm welcome, we’ll take great care of you, and there’s always cake!
