The installer dialog box contacts the configured widget repositories
(which are approved by KDE) and provides a list of available widgets.
2. Click the Install button for the widget you want to use.
The Add-On Installer automatically downloads the widget from the
repository and installs it on your workstation.
3. Click the Close button to close the Add-On Installer.
The newly installed widget appears in the Add Widgets dialog box.
4. Select the new widget from the Add Widgets dialog box.
5. Click the Add Widget button to add the new widget to your desktop or
panel.
After you’ve installed the new widget on your desktop or panel, you can
access and manage the widget from the control menu.
Adjusting the Desktop Settings
With KDE, you can configure just about every feature in your desktop environment
to your liking. The KDE System Settings utility provides quick access
to all your configuration needs.
You start the KDE System Settings utility from the KDE KickOff menu.
In Ubuntu, choose Computer➪System Settings. In Fedora, choose
Favorites➪System Settings. The main System Settings dialog box (shown in
Figure 5-6) appears.
The dialog box contains two tabs:
✓ General: Access to most of the common features of the desktop.
✓ Advanced: Access to some additional features for more advanced users,
such as setting programs to file extensions, managing services, and managing
sessions.
The General tab contains the features you’ll most want to mess with. It consists
of four sections (or groups) of settings:
✓ Look & Feel
✓ Personal
✓ Network & Connectivity
✓ Computer Administration
