Paul Byers, MD, State Epidemiologist,<br />
<strong>Mississippi</strong> State Department of Health<br />
Dr. Paul Byers received his Bachelor of Science degree from <strong>Mississippi</strong><br />
College and attended Medical School at The University of <strong>Mississippi</strong><br />
School of Medicine, where he also completed an internship in Internal<br />
Medicine.<br />
He has participated in many public health responses, including<br />
Hurricane Katrina and subsequent hurricanes, and has been involved<br />
in the investigations of multiple diseases and conditions of public health<br />
significance including Legionnaires’ disease and foodborne outbreaks,<br />
among others. He serves on the Continuing Medical Education<br />
Committee for the <strong>Mississippi</strong> <strong>Association</strong> of Public Health<br />
Physicians, and on the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee as well as<br />
the Institutional Review Board for the Department of Health.<br />
He is a respected author of numerous publications and distinguished<br />
presenter on the subjects of Epidemiology and Public Health. Dr. Byers<br />
is renowned for his commitment to the citizens of <strong>Mississippi</strong> and his<br />
outstanding work in public health.<br />
