This Council is specifically responsible for recommending continuing education policy and revisions
to the Board of Directors. The Director is responsible for meeting with the Provider Unit, a standing
committee under the Council on Nursing Education. The Director should be familiar with the MNA Self
Study where the Continuing Education process is clearly defined.
Director, Council on Nursing Practice ...Shonda Phelon, DNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, GNP-BC
The Director shall be concerned with advancing the practice of nursing which relate to the scope of
standards of nursing practice; the ethical and legal aspects of nursing practice; the practice of individual
nurses; and the trends for improvement of health care with nursing practice implications.
Director, Council on Nursing Research ................................... Vacant
This Council is concerned with advancing the profession of nursing through MNA sponsored activities
which relate to the improvement of health care; social, scientific, and educational changes in health
needs; protection of human subjects through established standards, and methods in research; research
promotions; and the development of theory and dissemination of findings.
Director, Council on Organizational Affairs . ..........Deloris Slade, MSN, RN, FNP-BC
This Council on Organizational Affairs is responsible for assisting with activities that relate to the growth
and maintenance of the organization including the Annual Convention. The Council is composed of the
committees on Bylaws, Convention Planning, and Awards.
