2018 Mississippi Nurses’ Association Annual Convention 12. Any member of MNA who is not a delegate may be granted the privilege of the floor, but shall speak only once to a question and only after all delegates wishing to speak have had the opportunity to speak. When giving name and district, such member shall indicate that he or she is not a delegate. 13. Business interrupted by an adjournment of the meeting of the House of Delegates shall be resumed at the next meeting of the House of Delegates at the point where it was interrupted. 14. To minimize disruption of the work of the House of Delegates and all related meetings, all electronic devices shall be set to vibrate. 15. These Convention Rules shall be amended or suspended by a two-thirds vote of the House. 40
2018 Mississippi Nurses’ Association Annual Convention Responsibilities of the MNA Board of Directors President .............................................. Debra Allen, MSN, RN The President elected at each odd-year convention serves the Association for a two-year term. • Presides at Board of Directors’ meeting and the MNA House of Delegates • Represents the Association in all official matters • Serves as a representative to the American Nurses’ Association Membership Assembly • Appoints committees and the members of same with the approval of the Board of Directors • Keeps the Board of Directors informed on matters of importance to the association • Reports activities of the Board of Directors to the Membership Vice President ...........................................Tonya Moore, PhD, RN The Vice President, elected at each even-year convention serves for a two-year term. The Vice President is responsible for activities related to membership which includes, but is not limited to, recruitment, retention, and member services. Additionally, the Vice President presides in the absence of the President. Secretary ..............................................Sandra Arnold, MSN, RN The Secretary, elected at each even-year convention serves a term of office for two years. • Responsible for record keeping and reporting of meetings to MNA. • Embosses signature as required on documents to meet official requirements. • Performs other duties as is usual and customary to the office. Treasurer ......................................... Carl Mangum, PhD, PMHNP The Treasurer, elected at each odd-year convention serves a term of office for two years. The Treasurer works with the Finance Committee and the Executive Director in running the financial affairs of the association. Director, Council on Advanced Practice ......Rebecca Cagle, PhD, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC The Director shall be concerned with issues related to the advanced practice nurse, i.e. nurse practitioners and certified mid-wives. This Council also assists in planning the Nurse Practitioner Spring Conference and the fall workshop in October. Director, Council on Health Affairs . ................. Alice Messer, DNP, RN, FNP-BC The Council on Health Affairs is responsible for assisting with activities relating to: the relevant, scientific and educational development and changes in health needs and practices and delivery systems; state and national affairs, legislation, and policies; and liaison with other health organizations for the advancement of health care. 41
