Registrar/certification organizations and their auditors face a special liability during the audit and after
registration/certification. An organization certifying that others meet a set of standards must use reasonable
care or competency in certifying. The auditor must follow the procedures of the certification body during the
audit process and base the certification recommendation on the results of the audit.
The certification body must have specific procedures and requirements for certification, and these must be
equally applied to all companies.
