Having drawn up and submitted a draft Course Audit in the previous year, 2018 saw swift progress, with
presentations to Past Captains and Members, followed by a Special General Meeting when approval was given for the
project. Work started in November 2018 with three new greens built and turfed by the end of the year.
This renowned course has hosted many amateur championships over the years, including The Walker Cup and the
Curtis Cup. A members’ survey highlighted that shorter players found the course unfairly difficult. This plan,
therefore, addresses that point with forward tees being added and carry bunkers being removed, while adjusting
bunkering to reinforce the Club’s championship status. The most significant changes that benefit all are new greens
on the 1 st , 7 th and 14 th . The former two have been elevated to give much better views of the Moray Firth and beach
that were missing before. Green surrounds on a further 12 holes are to be reshaped and bunkering adjusted to
encourage greater diversity of shot-making around the greens.
