heAThCOTe sChOOL’s FuNDRAIsINg suCCess!
The end of the Autumn term at
Heathcote School has been
exceedingly busy with fun filled
Christmas activities; the delightful
Early Years and Key Stage 1
Nativity, the beautiful Carol
Service at St John’s Church in
Danbury and much much more.
However, we have not just been
enjoying our festivities, we have
been thinking about others too.
The school has been collecting shoe boxes for a local Essex based
charity, British Aid for Deprived Children, which sends aid to disabled
children in the Ukraine. Heathcote has had connections with this
charity for many years and once again, George Mills was
overwhelmed by our support for this important project with a
fantastic 83 shoeboxes filled with small gifts and other practical
essentials.
Furthermore, for the third year running our Key Stage 2 children
were invited to sing at The Meadows Shopping Centre in Chelmsford
to help raise money for the RNIB. The children and staff enjoyed
singing carols for the Christmas shoppers, which also included a carol
written by our Headmistress, Mrs Forgeron. We had many
compliments from passers-by who enjoyed listening to our musical
performances.
Lastly this week the children held a Christmas fayre to raise money
for this year’s school charity, ‘Little Havens Hospice’. The children
organised a tombola, decorating baubles, icing biscuits, name the
reindeer and a treasure hunt. A superb £370 was raised for this vital
cause.

communicate before it is
understood,” wrote T.S. Eliot.
We are delighted to announce
that our Head Boy, Ben
(pictured below), was
successful in achieving 3rd prize
in the National Schools Poetry
Competition with his poem
entitled ‘Peace’. The result was
announced in the House of
Lords. The competition is
designed to unlock the
potential of young people and
to encourage them to express
their emotions through writing
poetry about peace. Ben has
really demonstrated a real flair
for poetry writing at Heathcote
Preparatory School in Danbury,
producing poems for
significant events including
Remembrance Day and the
Harvest festival.
Notably, last weekend, he
stood up with other children at
the Mission in Danbury to
make a speech and read a
special poem he had written
for this event in support of
keeping the local library open.
Essex County Council is
planning to close a group of
local libraries across the region.
