During the year 2018, Civil group, as a member of Special Interests Committee of MOHANDES,
has conducted several activities. In this group, there are always events either being planned or
executed. One of the biggest achievements of this group is its expansion which right now has more
than 430 members in the group’s Telegram account and is still growing.
Civil group also has an active Facebook page and a Linkedin group page with 160 members.
Civil group has a bi-monthly newsletter, published on the first day of odd-numbered months. It is
a modest internal bulletin that tries to provide up to date information about group’s activities while
provides a platform to hold members together. So far we have managed to publish twelve issues of
the newsletter, thanks to a few active members.
On June 2018, Dr Behnam Amini former head of the group was elected as member of the Board of
Directors of Mohandes, consequently Mr. Hamid Hemati became Head of the group and Mr. Abbas
Aftab-Jahani became head of the educational committee. Right now the group is governed by the
Civil Council composed of Afshin Khodabandeh, Behnam Amini, Hamid Hemati and Abbas Aftab
Jahani.
Civil engineering group also carries out professional seminars. Thanks to some of our colleagues
like Khodabandeh, Hemati, Aftab Jahani, Karimi, Torabizadeh and Daliri, the Educational-Training
committee conducts monthly professional seminars focusing on technical subjects. The seminars
performed in the past several months are: Geotechnical engineering by Farbod Saadat on January,
Traffic Engineering by Behnam Amini on February, Earthquake engineering by Farid Rezaeian
on March, Monitoring of structures by Afshin Sadri on April, Earthquake engineering by Pourang
Ezzatfar on May, Geotechnical risks by Masoud Manzari on June, Non-destructive tests by Hamed
Laysee and Farid Moradi on July, Geotextiles by Reza Mahmoudipour on August, Curtainwalls by
Moin Roohparvar on September, Welding Inspection by Faramarz Rahiminia on October and panelized
wall systems by Fadi Nabhan on November.
Civil engineering group also conducted a very successful full day workshop about highlights of
Part nine of the Ontario Building Code on January.
We civil engineers as part of the Kanoon MOHANDES, are proud of our achievements while
keeping our momentum to become better and more inclusive.
